Setup

1. Battery Installation

The YINMIK YK-2S pH meter requires alkaline batteries (included). To install or replace batteries, locate the battery compartment on the back of the device. Open the compartment, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators, and securely close the cover.

2. Initial Preparation

Before first use, or after prolonged storage, prepare the electrode:

  1. Remove the Protective Cap: Gently rotate the protective cap to the left and unscrew it from the meter. The cap contains a sponge that should be kept moist with KCL solution or purified water for optimal probe life.
  2. Rinse the Electrode: Rinse the spear tip electrode with purified water to remove any storage solution or residue.
Steps for preparing the YINMIK pH meter: 1. Unscrew protective cap. 2. Clean electrode with pure water. 3. Insert spear tip into sample.

Operating Instructions

1. Taking a Measurement

  1. Ensure the electrode is clean and the protective cap is removed.
  2. Turn on the pH meter by pressing the power button.
  3. Insert the spear tip electrode directly into the sample to be tested. For solid or semi-solid samples (like dough or meat), ensure the tip is fully immersed or inserted into the sample.
  4. Gently stir the sample with the probe (if applicable) to ensure even distribution.
  5. Wait for the reading on the LCD display to stabilize. The meter features an HD LCD backlight for clear visibility.
  6. Record the pH value and temperature displayed.
  7. After measurement, rinse the electrode with purified water and replace the protective cap.

2. Applications

  • Sourdough and Bread Dough: Monitor pH during bulk fermentation. Ideal pH for dough is typically 5.00-6.00.
  • Fermented Foods: Essential for checking pH of sausages, salami, cheese, sushi rice, canned jam, and sauces. The meter offers 0.00-14.00 pH range with ±0.1 accuracy.
  • Cosmetics: Directly test pH of cosmetics and lotions without needing to create slurries.
  • Soft Soil Samples: Suitable for measuring pH in soft soil.

Calibration

Regular calibration ensures the accuracy of your pH meter. The YINMIK YK-2S features a 3-point auto-calibration function. It is recommended to calibrate the meter frequently, especially if it has been stored for more than 15 days or if you require high precision.

Calibration Procedure:

  1. Prepare the buffer solutions: Dissolve the provided pH buffer powder (7.00, 4.00, and 10.01) into 250ml of distilled water each.
  2. Rinse the electrode with purified water before each calibration point.
  3. Calibrate pH 7.00: Immerse the electrode into the pH 7.00 buffer solution. Long press the "CAL" button for 5 seconds. Release when "7.00" starts flashing. Calibration is finished when the flashing stops.
  4. Calibrate pH 4.00: Rinse the electrode. Immerse it into the pH 4.00 buffer solution. Long press the "CAL" button for 5 seconds. Release when "4.00" starts flashing. Calibration is finished when the flashing stops.
  5. Calibrate pH 10.01: Rinse the electrode. Immerse it into the pH 10.01 buffer solution. Long press the "CAL" button for 5 seconds. Release when "10.01" starts flashing. Calibration is finished when the flashing stops.

Maintenance

1. Electrode Cleaning

After each use, always rinse the electrode thoroughly with purified water to prevent contamination and buildup of residues from the tested samples. Avoid touching the glass bulb of the electrode.

2. Electrode Storage

Proper storage is crucial for the longevity of the spear probe. The protective cap contains a sponge designed to keep the electrode moist. When the sponge appears dry, add a few drops of KCL storage solution or purified water to keep it hydrated. Never store the electrode dry.

The whole protective cap is completely detachable, allowing you to use the meter in narrow bottle mouths if needed.

Troubleshooting

  • Unstable or Inaccurate Readings:
    • Calibration: Ensure the meter is calibrated regularly (every few weeks or before each use if high precision is critical, especially after prolonged storage). Use fresh buffer solutions.
    • Electrode Condition: Check if the electrode tip is clean and free from debris. Rinse thoroughly with purified water.
    • Electrode Moisture: Ensure the sponge in the protective cap is moist with KCL solution or purified water. A dry electrode can lead to slow and inaccurate readings.
    • Sample Preparation: Ensure the sample is well-mixed and the probe is fully immersed or inserted.
    • Temperature: While the meter has ATC, extreme temperature fluctuations can affect readings. Allow the meter and sample to equilibrate to room temperature if possible.
  • Meter Not Turning On:
    • Batteries: Check if batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Slow Response Time:
    • Electrode Dryness: The electrode might be dry. Re-moisten the sponge in the protective cap with KCL solution or purified water.
    • Electrode Aging: Electrodes have a limited lifespan. If issues persist after proper maintenance and calibration, the electrode may need replacement.
