Lupine C14 SP

Lupine C14 SP E-Bike Taillight (Seatpost Version) Instruction Manual

Model: C14 SP | Brand: Lupine

1. Product Overview

The Lupine C14 SP is a high-performance 45-lumen taillight designed specifically for e-bikes, featuring a seatpost mounting system and an integrated brake light function. Constructed from CNC-milled, black anodized aluminum (6061-T6) with robust polycarbonate optics, this taillight is built for durability and reliability. It incorporates advanced COB technology and powerful Fresnel lenses to achieve high visibility while minimizing glare. A special arrangement of 14 LEDs ensures a homogeneous light pattern.

The C14 SP includes a G-sensor that detects braking, causing the light to briefly illuminate brighter as a brake light. It connects directly to your e-bike's motor system for power and is compatible with most current E-MTB systems. Adapter cables may be required for specific motors such as Bosch, Brose, and Yamaha.

This taillight is StVZO approved (~K1660) for road use and boasts an IP68 water resistance rating and IK09 impact resistance, ensuring performance in various conditions.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Read Instructions: Before installation and use, carefully read and understand all instructions in this manual.
  • Electrical Connection: Ensure the taillight is connected to the e-bike's electrical system by a qualified technician or with proper knowledge of electrical wiring. Incorrect wiring can damage the light or the e-bike.
  • Voltage Range: The C14 SP operates within a voltage range of 5V to 15V. Do not connect it to power sources outside this range.
  • Mounting Security: Always ensure the taillight is securely mounted to the seatpost. A loose light can fall off and cause distraction or damage.
  • Visibility: While the C14 SP enhances visibility, always use appropriate reflective gear and follow local traffic laws.
  • Cleaning: Use only a damp cloth for cleaning. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the lens or housing.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in the package:

  • Lupine C14 SP Taillight with integrated light cable
  • Inserts for adapting to different seatpost diameters (e.g., 31.6mm to 30.9mm)
  • 3x Adhesive cable guides
  • 1x 2.5mm Hex key

4. Installation

4.1 Mounting the Taillight

  1. Identify a suitable position on your bicycle's seatpost. The C14 SP is designed for a 50mm mounting width.
  2. The C14 SP features a two-part clamp for easy installation without removing the seatpost. Separate the two halves of the clamp.
  3. Place the taillight and its clamp around the seatpost. If your seatpost diameter requires it, use the provided inserts to ensure a snug fit. The inserts help adapt the clamp for seatposts with diameters such as 30.9mm if the clamp is designed for 31.6mm.
  4. Align the two halves of the clamp and secure them using the provided hex key. Tighten the screw until the light is firmly in place but do not overtighten.

4.2 Electrical Connection

The C14 SP connects directly to your e-bike's motor system. The integrated light cable needs to be routed and connected to the appropriate power output on your e-bike motor. This connection should ideally be performed by a qualified bicycle mechanic or someone with experience in e-bike electrical systems.

  • Adapter Cables: For Bosch, Brose, and Yamaha motors, a specific adapter cable (approximately 13 cm in length) may be required. Ensure you have the correct adapter for your motor type.
  • Cable Routing: Use the provided adhesive cable guides to neatly route the light cable along your bicycle frame, preventing it from snagging or interfering with moving parts.

5. Operation

Once correctly installed and connected to your e-bike's power system, the Lupine C14 SP operates automatically with your e-bike's lighting system. There is no manual on/off switch on the taillight itself.

  • Standard Operation: The taillight will illuminate when your e-bike's lighting system is activated.
  • Brake Light Function: The integrated G-sensor detects deceleration. When braking is detected, the C14 SP will briefly increase its brightness to signal your braking action to following traffic.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the taillight lens and housing with a soft, damp cloth to ensure optimal light output and visibility. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Connection Check: Periodically inspect the electrical connection and cable routing for any signs of wear, damage, or looseness. Ensure all connections remain secure.
  • Mounting Security: Check the tightness of the mounting screws periodically to ensure the taillight remains securely attached to the seatpost.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Light Not Illuminating:
    • Ensure your e-bike's lighting system is activated.
    • Check the electrical connection to the e-bike motor for proper contact.
    • Verify the voltage output from your e-bike system is within the 5V-15V range.
    • Inspect the cable for any visible damage or cuts.
  • Brake Light Not Functioning:
    • Ensure the taillight is securely mounted and not loose, as this can affect the G-sensor's ability to detect deceleration.
    • Confirm the main taillight function is working correctly.
  • Loose Mounting:
    • Retighten the mounting screws using the 2.5mm hex key. Do not overtighten.
    • If the light continues to slip, ensure the correct inserts are used for your seatpost diameter.
