Setup

Battery Installation

The HEIMAN smoke detector is powered by a replaceable 3V CR123A lithium battery, designed for a long lifespan (up to 5 years). To install or replace the battery:

  1. Twist the detector counter-clockwise from its mounting bracket to remove it.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the detector.
  3. Insert the CR123A battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. The detector will emit a short beep to indicate successful battery installation.

Mounting the Detector

The detector can be easily installed on the ceiling using either screws or 3M adhesive sticker.

  1. Choose a suitable location on the ceiling, ideally in the center of a room or hallway, away from vents or fans.
  2. Using Screws: Mark the positions for the two screw holes using the mounting bracket as a template. Drill pilot holes, insert wall plugs, and then secure the mounting bracket with the provided screws.
  3. Using 3M Sticker: Ensure the ceiling surface is clean and dry. Peel off the protective film from the 3M adhesive sticker on the mounting bracket and firmly press it onto the desired ceiling location for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Align the detector with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it clicks securely into place.

App Pairing (Wi-Fi Connection)

The HEIMAN smoke detector connects to your smartphone via Wi-Fi using the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app. This allows for real-time notifications and remote control.

  1. Download the "Tuya Smart" or "Smart Life" app from your smartphone's app store (iOS or Android).
  2. Register or log in to your account.
  3. Ensure your phone is connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (5GHz networks are not supported).
  4. Open the app and tap "Add Device" or the "+" icon.
  5. Select "Security & Video Surveillance" > "Smoke Detector (Wi-Fi)".
  6. Follow the in-app instructions to put the device into pairing mode. This usually involves pressing the detector's button three times quickly until the LED indicator blinks rapidly.
  7. Confirm the indicator is blinking rapidly in the app and enter your Wi-Fi password.
  8. The app will search for and connect to the device. Once connected, the LED will stop blinking, and the app will confirm successful pairing.
  9. Rename the device in the app for easy identification (e.g., "Living Room Smoke Detector").

Operating the Detector

Testing the Alarm

It is crucial to test your smoke detector regularly to ensure it is functioning correctly. Test the alarm at least once a month.

  • Press and hold the Test/Hush button on the detector for a few seconds.
  • The alarm will sound a loud, penetrating signal (85 dB), and the LED indicator will flash.
  • Release the button to stop the test.
  • You should also receive a test notification on your smartphone via the app.

Alarm Notifications

When smoke is detected, the device will emit a loud audible alarm, and simultaneously send real-time notifications to your paired smartphone.

Silencing the Alarm (Hush Function)

In case of a false alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm:

  • Via the Device: Briefly press the Test/Hush button on the detector. The alarm will silence for a short period (typically 5-10 minutes) before resetting.
  • Via the App: Open the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app. When an alarm is active, an option to "Mute" or "Silence Alarm" will appear. Tap this option to temporarily silence the alarm remotely.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

When the battery is low, the detector will emit a chirp sound periodically and send a low battery notification to your smartphone. Replace the battery immediately to ensure continuous protection. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for detailed steps.

Cleaning the Detector

Dust and debris can accumulate on the smoke detector and affect its performance. Clean your detector at least once a year:

  • Gently vacuum the exterior of the detector using a soft brush attachment.
  • Wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents.
  • Do not open the detector's casing for cleaning.

Regular Checks

Perform a manual test of the alarm monthly as described in the "Testing the Alarm" section. Ensure the LED indicator is functioning correctly during tests.
