Operating Instructions
Selecting Operating Mode
The nailer typically offers two operating modes: sequential and bump fire. Refer to your tool's specific controls for mode selection.
- Sequential Mode: Requires the trigger to be pulled for each nail. This mode offers precise placement and is generally safer.
- Bump Fire Mode: Allows for rapid firing by holding the trigger and bumping the contact trip against the work surface. This mode increases efficiency for high-volume tasks.
Adjusting Nailing Depth
The nailing depth can be adjusted to ensure nails are driven flush or to a desired depth. Locate the depth adjustment dial or lever on the tool and rotate/move it to achieve the desired depth. Test on a scrap piece of material before actual use.
Nailing Procedure
- Ensure the battery is installed and nails are loaded.
- Select the appropriate operating mode.
- Place the contact trip firmly against the work surface where the nail is to be driven.
- Pull the trigger to drive a nail.
- For bump fire mode, hold the trigger and repeatedly bump the contact trip against the surface.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DEWALT DCN45RNB, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Nailer does not fire. | Battery not charged or improperly installed; no nails in magazine; contact trip not fully depressed. | Check battery charge and installation; load nails; ensure contact trip is fully engaged with work surface. |
| Nails jam frequently. | Incorrect nail size/type; damaged nails; debris in magazine; driver blade issue. | Use recommended nails; inspect nails for damage; clear magazine of debris; consult service center if driver blade is suspected. |
| Nails not driven to full depth. | Depth adjustment set too shallow; low battery charge; incorrect air pressure (if applicable, though this is cordless). | Adjust depth setting; recharge battery; ensure proper technique. |
| Tool feels heavy or bulky. | This is a characteristic of the tool due to its battery and motor. | Ensure proper grip and body mechanics to minimize fatigue. The cordless design offers freedom from hoses. |
