  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged before beginning work.
  • If lifting the vehicle, use appropriate jack stands and follow vehicle manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 350 lbs per running board.
  • Periodically check all mounting hardware for tightness and re-torque as necessary.

4. Installation Guide

The installation process for Snailfly running boards is designed for ease, utilizing existing factory mounting points with minimal modification required.

4.1. Tools Required

  • Socket Wrench Set
  • Drill (for one specific hole on passenger side)
  • Rivnut Tool (for one specific hole on passenger side)
  • Measuring Tape
  • Marker or Pen

4.2. Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Unpack all components and verify against the package contents list.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the running boards and mounting brackets. Note that the running boards are side-specific (left and right).
  3. Clean the vehicle's underbody and pinch weld areas where the brackets will be mounted to ensure a secure fit.

4.3. Step-by-Step Installation

Follow these steps for installing the running boards. It is recommended to install one side completely before moving to the other.

  1. Identify Mounting Locations: Locate the factory mounting points on the vehicle's underbody and pinch weld. There are three primary locations per side: front, middle, and rear.
  2. Close-up images showing left-front, left-middle, and left-rear mounting points on the vehicle's underbody.

  3. Install Brackets: Attach the mounting brackets to the identified factory locations using the provided hardware. For the passenger side center mount, you will need to drill one hole and install a rivnut. Ensure all bolts are hand-tightened initially.
  4. Close-up of bolts securing a running board to the vehicle frame, illustrating easy bolt-on installation.
Figure 4.2: Illustration of the bolt-on installation process using factory holes.
  5. Attach Running Boards: Carefully position the running board onto the installed brackets. Align the pre-drilled holes on the running board with the bracket mounting points. Secure the running board to the brackets using the remaining hardware.
  6. Adjust and Tighten: Once the running board is loosely attached, make any necessary adjustments to ensure it is level and properly aligned with the vehicle's body. Once satisfied with the alignment, fully tighten all bolts to the recommended torque specifications (refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific torque values if available, otherwise tighten securely).
  7. Repeat for Other Side: Follow the same steps for installing the running board on the opposite side of the vehicle.

Note on Mud Flaps: These running boards are designed to be fully compatible with existing mud flaps and do not interfere with their original mounting bolts in the wheel wells.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and continued performance of your Snailfly running boards.

  • Cleaning: Clean the running boards regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the black powder coating.
  • Hardware Inspection: Periodically inspect all mounting hardware (every 3-6 months or during routine vehicle maintenance) to ensure they remain tight. Re-tighten any loose bolts to prevent rattling or instability.
  • Damage Check: Inspect the running boards for any signs of damage, such as bends, cracks, or excessive wear on the stepping surface or end caps. Replace damaged components as necessary.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Running board feels loose or rattles. Mounting hardware is loose. Inspect and re-tighten all mounting bolts.
Difficulty installing the middle bracket on the passenger side. Requires drilling and rivnut installation. Ensure you have the correct drill bit size and a rivnut tool. Follow instructions for rivnut installation carefully.
Running board does not appear level. Improper alignment during installation. Loosen mounting bolts, adjust the running board until level, then re-tighten securely.
Scratches or damage to the finish. Normal wear and tear or impact. Minor scratches can be touched up with appropriate black paint. For significant damage, consider replacement.
