3. Initial Software Setup
Once the NAS is powered on and connected to the network, you can proceed with the software setup using QNAP's Qfinder Pro utility or by accessing the NAS directly via a web browser.
- Using Qfinder Pro: Download and install Qfinder Pro from the official QNAP website (www.qnap.com/utility/qfinderpro). Launch the utility, and it will discover your NAS on the network. Follow the on-screen instructions to initialize the NAS, create storage pools, and set up user accounts.
- Via Web Browser: Open a web browser and enter the IP address of your NAS (if known) or use the default hostname (e.g., http://qnapnas:8080). The QTS (QNAP Turbo NAS System) setup wizard will guide you through the initialization process.
During the setup, you will configure network settings, create an administrator account, and set up your storage volume(s). It is recommended to create a RAID configuration for data redundancy.

Cleaning
Keep the NAS clean to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. For vents, use compressed air to remove dust buildup. Ensure the device is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions
- NAS Not Detected on Network:
- Ensure Ethernet cables are securely connected.
- Verify your router/switch is functioning correctly.
- Check network settings on your computer and the NAS (using Qfinder Pro).
- Temporarily disable firewall on your computer.
- Slow Performance:
- Check network cable quality and ensure 2.5GbE connection is active.
- Monitor CPU and RAM usage in QTS Resource Monitor.
- Ensure drives are healthy and not experiencing high I/O.
- Consider enabling M.2 SSD caching for frequently accessed data.
- Drive Failure Indication:
- If a drive LED indicates an error, check Storage & Snapshots in QTS for detailed information.
- Replace the faulty drive as soon as possible to maintain data redundancy (if RAID is configured).
LED Indicators
The front panel LEDs provide status information about the NAS and its components. Refer to the Quick Installation Guide for a detailed explanation of each LED's behavior (e.g., power, status, LAN, USB, HDD activity).
System Reset
In case of severe issues, a system reset can be performed. There are different reset options, ranging from network settings reset to factory default reset (which may erase data). Consult the QNAP online documentation for detailed instructions on performing a system reset safely.
