5.3. Steamer vs. Traditional Iron
It is important to understand that a garment steamer is not a direct replacement for a traditional iron. Each has its specific advantages:
| Feature | Garment Steamer | Traditional Iron |
|---|---|---|
| Fabric Suitability | Ideal for delicate clothes, heavily embroidered, layered, or pleated attires. | Ideal for perfectly crisp look on starched cotton fabric. |
| Board Requirement | Quick de-wrinkling, no board required. | Longer ironing session required with ironing board. |
| Usage Volume | For daily outfits, 3-5 garments at a time, smaller water tank. | For bigger pile of clothes, bigger water tank. |
| Portability | Light & compact, suitable for traveling. | Large and heavy, perfect for home. |

6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your steamer:
- Empty Water Tank: After each use, always empty any remaining water from the tank.
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the steamer with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Descaling: If you notice reduced steam output or mineral residue, descale the steamer according to the instructions provided in the full product manual (if available). Using purified water helps minimize descaling needs.
- Storage: Store the steamer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
7. Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:
- No Steam:
- Check if the water tank is filled with water. The steamer has dry boiling protection and will not operate without sufficient water.
- Ensure the steamer is properly plugged into a 16A power outlet.
- Allow adequate pre-heating time (40-45 seconds).
- Steamer Turns Off Automatically:
- This is a safety feature (overheating protection). It indicates low water level or no water in the tank. Refill the water tank.
- Water Dripping from Steam Plate:
- Ensure the steamer has fully pre-heated before use.
- Avoid tilting the steamer too much during vertical steaming.
