EVTSCAN GM550

EVTSCAN GM550 Industrial Infrared Thermometer User Manual

Model: GM550

1. Introduction

The EVTSCAN GM550 is a non-contact industrial infrared thermometer designed for accurate and rapid temperature measurement of surfaces. It is suitable for a wide range of applications in machinery, chemical industry, food processing, electrical systems, and heat treatment. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your GM550 thermometer.

Important Note: This device is an industrial thermometer and is not intended for medical use. Do not use it to measure human or animal body temperature. Infrared thermometers measure surface temperature only and cannot determine internal body temperature.

2. Important Safety Information

  • Do not point the laser directly at eyes or indirectly off reflective surfaces.
  • Do not use the thermometer near explosive gases, steam, or dust.
  • Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Keep the device away from strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Clean the lens and housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ensure the battery is inserted correctly according to polarity markings. Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period.

3. Product Overview

The EVTSCAN GM550 features a pistol-grip design for comfortable handling and a clear LCD display for easy reading. Its infrared sensor allows for non-contact temperature measurement, while the integrated laser provides precise aiming.

4. Setup

Battery Installation

The GM550 thermometer requires one 9V 6F22 battery (not included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - terminals).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5. Operation

Taking a Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target object.
  2. Pull and hold the measurement trigger. The laser pointer will activate to indicate the measurement spot.
  3. The temperature reading will appear on the LCD display.
  4. Release the trigger to hold the measurement on the display. The 'HOLD' icon will appear.

Understanding the Display

The LCD display shows the measured temperature, measurement unit (℃ or ℉), emissivity setting (EMS), and other indicators like data hold (HOLD) and low battery.

Adjusting Settings

  • Unit Selection (℃/℉): Press the 'SET' button to cycle through available settings. Use the 'UP' or 'DOWN' arrow buttons to change the temperature unit between Celsius (℃) and Fahrenheit (℉).
  • Emissivity Adjustment (EMS): Emissivity (ε) is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate readings, adjust the emissivity setting to match the material being measured. The default value is 0.95. Press the 'EMS' button and use the 'UP' or 'DOWN' arrow buttons to adjust the value from 0.1 to 0.99.

Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)

The GM550 has a Distance to Spot (D:S) ratio of 12:1. This means that at a distance of 12 units, the measurement spot diameter is 1 unit. For example, if you are 12 inches away from the target, the measurement area will be 1 inch in diameter. To ensure accurate readings, make sure the target area is larger than the spot size.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the thermometer's housing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not immerse the device in water. Clean the infrared lens gently with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol or lens cleaner.
  • Storage: Store the thermometer in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No display/Device does not turn onLow or dead battery; Incorrect battery installationReplace the 9V battery; Check battery polarity.
Inaccurate readingsIncorrect emissivity setting; Lens is dirty; Target area too small; Distance too farAdjust emissivity to match material; Clean the lens; Ensure target is larger than spot size; Reduce measurement distance.
Laser not workingLaser function disabled (if applicable); MalfunctionCheck if there's a setting to enable/disable laser (refer to specific model features); Contact support if persistent.
