3. Setup

3.1 Attaching the Shock Mount

  1. Gently insert the VM10 PRO microphone into the shock mount's clips.
  2. Ensure the microphone is securely seated to prevent movement and absorb vibrations.
  3. Attach the shock mount to your camera's hot shoe, a tripod, or a compatible smartphone rig.

3.2 Connecting to Devices

The VM10 PRO supports both analog (3.5mm) and digital (USB-C) connections. Select the appropriate cable and mode for your device.

3.2.1 Analog Mode (3.5mm Output)

Use this mode for cameras, camcorders, and some smartphones/tablets with a 3.5mm audio input.

  1. Slide the mode switch on the microphone to 'Analog'.
  2. For cameras, use the provided 3.5mm TRS-TRS audio cable. Connect one end to the microphone's 3.5mm output port and the other end to your camera's microphone input.
  3. For smartphones/tablets with a 3.5mm jack, use the provided 3.5mm TRS-TRRS audio cable. Connect one end to the microphone's 3.5mm output port and the other end to your device's 3.5mm jack.
  4. Note: An iPhone adapter cable (Lightning to 3.5mm) is not included and must be purchased separately if needed.

3.2.2 Digital Mode (USB-C Output)

Use this mode for smartphones, tablets, laptops, and PCs with a USB-C port.

  1. Slide the mode switch on the microphone to 'Digital'.
  2. Use the provided USB-C audio cable. Connect one end to the microphone's USB-C output port and the other end to your device's USB-C port.
  3. The microphone is plug-and-play; no drivers are typically required.

3.3 Using the Wind Muff

For outdoor recording or in windy conditions, attach the included wind muff (dead cat) over the microphone head. This helps to significantly reduce wind noise and plosives, improving audio clarity.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

The VM10 PRO is a battery-free microphone. It powers on automatically when connected to a compatible device and powers off when disconnected. Ensure your device provides sufficient power for operation.

4.2 Mode Selection

Use the 'Digital/Analog' switch on the microphone body to select the appropriate output mode based on your connected device and cable type.

4.3 Stepless Gain Control (Digital Mode Only)

When operating in Digital mode, the orange 'Vol' knob on the microphone allows for stepless adjustment of the audio gain. Rotate the knob clockwise to increase gain and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Adjust the gain to achieve optimal recording levels without distortion.

4.4 Real-time Monitoring (Digital Mode Only)

In Digital mode, the 3.5mm output port on the microphone functions as a real-time headphone monitoring jack. Connect headphones to this port to monitor your audio during recording. This allows you to verify audio quality and levels in real-time.

4.5 Super Cardioid Polar Pattern

The VM10 PRO utilizes a super cardioid polar pattern, which is highly directional. This means it primarily captures sound from directly in front of the microphone, while significantly reducing sounds from the sides and rear.
