2. Safety Information
- Do not operate the radio in explosive atmospheres (e.g., flammable gases, dust particles, metallic powders).
- Do not charge the battery in wet environments.
- Use only BAOFENG approved batteries and chargers. Using unapproved accessories may cause damage or injury.

4. Product Overview
Familiarize yourself with the various parts and controls of your BAOFENG UV-S9 Plus radio.

Key Components:
- Antenna: For transmitting and receiving signals.
- Knob (ON/OFF, Volume): Rotates to power the radio on/off and adjust volume.

5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation and Charging
The BAOFENG UV-S9 Plus comes with a 2200mAh Li-ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.
- To install the battery, align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place.
- To remove the battery, press the battery release latch (located at the bottom of the battery) and slide the battery downwards.
- Charging Methods:
- Desktop Charger: Place the radio (with battery installed) into the desktop charging cradle. Ensure the charging contacts align. The LED on the charger will indicate charging status (usually red for charging, green for fully charged).
- USB Charger: Connect the provided USB charging cable to the charging port on the side of the battery (when installed on the radio) or directly to the battery pack. Connect the other end to a USB power source (e.g., computer, USB wall adapter, power bank).

5.2 Antenna Installation
Screw the desired antenna (standard or 771 antenna) clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.
5.3 Earpiece Connection
Insert the earpiece plug into the audio jack on the side of the radio. Ensure it is fully inserted for proper audio output and microphone input.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Powering On/Off and Volume Adjustment
Rotate the top knob clockwise to power on the radio. Continue rotating clockwise to increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off the radio.
6.2 Frequency/Channel Mode Switch (VFO/MR)
Press the VFO/MR button to switch between VFO (Frequency) mode and MR (Channel) mode. In VFO mode, you can manually input frequencies. In MR mode, you can select pre-programmed channels.
6.3 Transmitting and Receiving (PTT)
To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-to-Talk) button on the left side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to return to receive mode.
6.4 Menu Navigation
Press the MENU button to enter the radio's menu system. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to navigate through menu options. Press MENU again to select an option, and EXIT to return to the previous screen or exit the menu.
6.5 VOX Function (Voice Operated Transmit)
The VOX function allows for hands-free transmission. When activated, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. Adjust VOX sensitivity (0-9 grades) in the menu to prevent accidental transmissions or missed voice activation.
6.6 Scan Function
Press the SCAN button (keypad #9) to initiate channel or frequency scanning. The radio will scan through active channels or frequencies until a signal is detected. Press SCAN again to stop scanning.
6.7 Flashlight LED
Press the Flashlight/Monitor button briefly to turn the built-in LED flashlight on or off.
6.8 FM Radio
Press the FM/ALARM button briefly to activate the FM radio function. Use the keypad to input desired FM frequencies or scan for stations.
6.9 Emergency Alarm
Press and hold the FM/ALARM button to activate the emergency alarm. The radio will emit a loud siren sound. Press any key to stop the alarm.
6.10 Power Levels (TX Selectable)
The UV-S9 Plus supports selectable transmit power levels: High (8W), Mid (4W), and Low (1W). Adjusting the power level can conserve battery life and optimize communication range. This setting can typically be found in the radio's menu.

6.11 Programming and Advanced Features
The radio supports advanced features such as DTMF, OFFSET, CTCSS/DCS tones, and Busy Channel Lockout (BCLO). Many users also utilize third-party software like CHIRP for easier programming via a computer.

7.1 Cleaning

- Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.

- If storing the radio for an extended period, charge the battery to about 50% and remove it from the radio.
