Setup Instructions

  1. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, clean the cooler thoroughly with mild soap and warm water. Rinse completely and allow to air dry.
  2. Pre-cooling: For optimal ice retention, pre-cool your ENG50 cooler. Place a bag of ice or frozen water bottles inside the cooler with the lid closed for several hours or overnight before loading your items. This lowers the internal temperature of the cooler walls.
  3. Placement: Position the cooler in a shaded area whenever possible to minimize direct sun exposure, which can significantly impact ice retention.
  4. Included Components: The ENG50 cooler comes with 2 ergonomic handles and 4 integrated tie-down points for secure transport.

Operating Your Cooler

  • Loading Contents:
    • For best results, use a high ice-to-content ratio (ideally 2:1 ice to contents).
    • Use block ice for longer retention, or a mix of block and cubed ice for faster cooling.
    • Pre-chill all items before placing them in the cooler.
    • Fill the cooler as much as possible to reduce air space.
  • Securing the Lid: Ensure the lid is properly closed and the heavy-duty latches are securely fastened to create an airtight seal. This seal is crucial for maintaining internal temperature.

  • Bear Resistance: The ENG50 cooler is certified bear-resistant by the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC). For bear-resistant use, ensure the cooler is properly secured and locked using the designated locking points.

Care and Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the cooler with mild soap and warm water. For stubborn stains or odors, a solution of baking soda and water can be used. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely to prevent mold or mildew.
  • Gasket Care: Periodically inspect the lid gasket for any signs of wear or damage. Keep the gasket clean and free of debris to ensure a proper seal. A light application of silicone lubricant can help maintain its flexibility.

  • Latch Adjustment: If you notice reduced ice retention or a loose lid, the latches may require adjustment. Loosen the screws on the latch hardware slightly, adjust the position to increase tension when closed, and then re-tighten the screws. Test the seal by attempting to pull a piece of paper from under the closed lid; it should offer resistance.
  • Storage: When storing the cooler for extended periods, leave the lid slightly ajar to allow for air circulation and prevent odors. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Reduced Ice Retention

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  • Insufficient Pre-cooling: Ensure the cooler is pre-cooled before adding contents.
  • Low Ice-to-Content Ratio: Increase the amount of ice relative to the contents.
  • Frequent Opening: Minimize opening the lid to prevent warm air from entering.
  • Lid Seal Compromised: Check the lid gasket for damage or debris. Ensure latches are securely fastened and consider adjusting them if loose (refer to "Latch Adjustment" in Maintenance).
  • Direct Sunlight Exposure: Relocate the cooler to a shaded area.
Issue: Latches Feel Loose or Don't Seal Properly

Solution: Refer to the "Latch Adjustment" instructions in the Maintenance section to tighten the latches and improve the seal.

Issue: Odors Inside the Cooler

Solution: Clean the cooler thoroughly with a baking soda and water solution. Ensure it is completely dry before storage, and store with the lid slightly ajar.
