2.2 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Ensure your power supply is sufficient. A minimum of a 500W brand power supply is recommended.
- Verify CPU compatibility. If using for processors, do not use REG ECC memory simultaneously as they are not compatible.
- Prepare your computer case and necessary tools.
2.3 Installation Steps
- CPU Installation: Carefully open the LGA2011-3 socket lever, align your compatible Intel Core i7 or Xeon E5 V3/V4 processor, and gently place it into the socket. Close the lever to secure the CPU.
- CPU Cooler Installation: Install your CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions. Ensure proper thermal paste application and secure mounting.
- RAM Installation: This motherboard supports 4 DDR4 2133/2400/2800 memory modules, up to a maximum of 32GB. Insert DDR4 memory modules into the DIMM slots, ensuring they click into place. For optimal performance, install modules in matched pairs for quad-channel operation.
- NVME M.2 SSD Installation: Locate the Full Speed M.2 SSD slot. Insert your NVME M.2 SSD at an angle and secure it with the provided screw. This slot offers theoretical bandwidth up to 4GB/s.
- PCI-E Card Installation: Insert your graphics card or other PCI-E expansion cards into the PCI-E 16X 3.0 slots. Ensure they are fully seated and secured with the case's retention mechanism.
- Power Connections: Connect the 24-pin ATX main power connector and the 8-pin CPU power connector from your power supply to the motherboard.
- SATA Device Connections: Connect your SATA hard drives or SSDs to the SATA 3.0 ports on the motherboard using the provided SATA cables.
- Front Panel Connections: Connect the power switch, reset switch, power LED, and hard drive indicator cables from your computer case to the corresponding pins on the motherboard's front panel header. Refer to the diagram below for correct pin alignment.
- I/O Shield Installation: Install the I/O shield into your computer case before mounting the motherboard.

3.2 BIOS/UEFI Access
To enter the BIOS/UEFI setup, press the designated key (commonly DEL or F2) during the initial boot sequence. The BIOS interface may appear basic but offers comprehensive settings for system configuration. Be cautious when making changes if you are not familiar with specific settings.
3.3 Driver Installation
For Windows operating systems (e.g., Windows 10), most necessary drivers should be automatically detected and installed via Windows Update. If any drivers are missing, check the manufacturer's website for specific driver downloads for the X99 chipset.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and stable operation of your motherboard and PC components.
- Dust Removal: Periodically clean dust from inside your computer case, especially from heatsinks, fans, and the motherboard surface. Use compressed air or a soft brush. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
- Airflow: Ensure proper airflow within your case by managing cables and ensuring case fans are functioning correctly. Good airflow prevents overheating of components.
- BIOS Updates: Only update the BIOS if necessary and follow official instructions carefully. Incorrect BIOS updates can render the motherboard inoperable.
5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
- System Does Not Power On:
- Verify all power cables (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU) are securely connected to the motherboard and power supply.
- Ensure your power supply meets the minimum 500W requirement and is functioning correctly.
- Check front panel power switch connections.
- No Display Output:
- Ensure your graphics card is properly seated in the PCI-E slot and its power connectors are attached.
- Check monitor cable connections.
- Reseat RAM modules. Incorrectly seated RAM is a common cause of no display.
- CPU/RAM Compatibility Issues:
- This motherboard supports LGA2011 V3 processors. Ensure your CPU is compatible. For example, the i7-6850k is not compatible with this motherboard.
- If using for processors, ensure you are not using REG ECC memory simultaneously, as they are not compatible with each other.
- BIOS/UEFI Issues:
- If the BIOS resolution changes randomly, try connecting to a different display or resetting CMOS.
- If you experience difficulty navigating the BIOS, refer to online resources or contact support for guidance.
- General Performance Issues:
- Ensure all drivers are up to date. Windows Update typically handles this, but manual installation may be required for specific components.
- Check for proper cooling to prevent thermal throttling.
