2. Product Overview

The Renogy 100W 12V Solar Panel is a high-efficiency monocrystalline PV module designed for various off-grid applications, including RVs, motorhomes, cabins, and marine systems. It features a durable aluminum frame and shatter-resistant glass, built to withstand outdoor conditions.

The Renogy Wanderer Li 30A PWM Solar Charge Controller is designed to manage power flow from your solar panel to your battery bank. It incorporates efficient PWM charging to extend battery life and improve system performance. This controller is compatible with 12V lithium, sealed, gel, and flooded batteries and offers protection against various electrical faults.

5. Setup & Installation

5.1 Solar Panel Installation

The Renogy 100W solar panel is designed for easy installation with pre-drilled mounting holes. It can be mounted on various surfaces such as RV roofs, cabins, or ground mounts. Ensure the panel is positioned to receive maximum sunlight throughout the day, ideally facing south (in the Northern Hemisphere) at an optimal tilt angle.

5.2 Charge Controller Wiring

The Renogy Wanderer Li 30A charge controller is designed for straightforward wiring. Follow the connection sequence below to ensure proper and safe operation:

1. Connect the Battery: First, connect the battery to the charge controller's battery terminals. Ensure correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). The controller's LED indicators should light up.
2. Connect the Solar Panel: Next, connect the solar panel to the charge controller's PV (solar) terminals. Again, ensure correct polarity. The controller will begin charging the battery if sunlight is available.
3. Connect the Load (Optional): If you are connecting a DC load directly to the controller, connect it to the load terminals. Note that the Wanderer Li controller does not have a low voltage disconnect for the load, so an external low voltage disconnect or monitoring is recommended for critical loads.

Important: Always connect the battery first and disconnect the battery last when wiring or unwiring the system.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Charge Controller Operation

The Wanderer Li 30A controller utilizes a 4-stage PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) charging algorithm to optimize battery charging and extend battery lifespan. The stages are:

• Bulk Charge: Charges the battery at maximum current until voltage rises to the absorption level.
• Boost Charge: Continues charging at a constant voltage to ensure the battery is fully charged.
• Float Charge: Maintains the battery at a constant voltage to prevent overcharging once fully charged.
• Equalization Charge (for Flooded batteries): Periodically overcharges the battery to balance cell voltages and remove sulfation.

6.2 Battery Type Selection

The Wanderer Li controller supports multiple 12V battery types. The battery type can be selected via the button on the controller. The LED indicators will show the currently selected battery type:

• Green LED: Sealed Battery
• Orange LED: GEL Battery
• Red LED: Flooded Battery
• Blue LED: Lithium Battery

Ensure the correct battery type is selected for optimal charging and battery health.

6.3 Remote Monitoring (Optional)

The Wanderer Li controller features an RS232 port, allowing connection to the Renogy BT-1 Bluetooth module (sold separately). With the BT-1 module and the Renogy DC Home smartphone app, you can monitor your solar system's performance and adjust settings remotely.

• No Power Output from Panel: Check for shading on the panel. Ensure all connections from the panel to the controller are secure and correctly polarized. Verify the panel is receiving adequate sunlight.
• Battery Not Charging: Confirm the battery type setting on the charge controller matches your battery. Check all wiring between the battery and controller for secure connections and correct polarity. Ensure the solar panel is producing power.
• Controller Not Functioning: Verify the battery is connected first and has sufficient voltage to power the controller. Check for any blown fuses in the system.
