Introduction

The Godox GM6S Camera Monitor is a 5.5-inch IPS touch screen video monitor designed for professional videography and photography. It features 4K HDMI input/output, ultra-bright 1200nit display, and supports 3D LUTs for accurate color representation. This manual provides detailed instructions on setting up, operating, and maintaining your GM6S monitor.

Setup

1. Power Supply

The GM6S monitor supports three power supply methods:

  1. Lithium Battery: Insert a compatible NP-F series lithium battery into the battery slot on the rear of the monitor. (Battery not included)
  2. DC Power: Connect a DC power adapter (not included) to the DC IN port.
  3. Type-C USB: Connect a Type-C USB cable (not included) to the Type-C port for emergency power, especially useful for mobile phone shooting setups.

2. Mounting the Monitor

Attach the included cold shoe mount to your camera's hot shoe or a compatible rig. Then, secure the GM6S monitor to the cold shoe mount using its 1/4"-20 mounting points. The monitor features multiple 1/4"-20 mounting points with ARRI positioning holes on three sides for versatile mounting options.

3. Connecting to a Camera (HDMI)

Connect your camera's HDMI output to the GM6S monitor's HDMI input using one of the provided HDMI cables (HDMI to Mini, HDMI to Micro, or standard HDMI). Ensure the cable is securely connected to both devices.

Operating Instructions

User Interface (UI) Navigation

The GM6S features an optimized UI logic and function layout for a convenient and smooth user experience. The monitor supports both full touch screen mode and button mode for navigation.

  • Full Touch Screen Mode: Use pinch-to-zoom gestures to view details. Tap and swipe to navigate menus and adjust settings.
  • Button Mode: Utilize the physical buttons and the wheel on the monitor for quick selection and function settings. Custom buttons allow for quick access to frequently used functions.

Display Features

  • Ultra Bright Display: The 5.5-inch IPS screen boasts 1200nit brightness, ensuring clear visibility even in strong sunlight.
  • Professional Color Calibration: Adheres to the Rec.709 international color standard, providing high-fidelity and realistic colors.
  • Custom 3D LUT Support: Import up to 25 custom 3D LUTs via an SD card (not included) to convert Log footage to REC.709 or apply creative looks.

Camera Control (Optional)

With an optional camera control cable (sold separately), the GM6S can conveniently access camera functions, enhancing shooting efficiency. This allows for seamless switching between monitor and camera controls.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
Monitor does not power on.
  • Ensure battery is charged and correctly inserted.
  • Verify DC power adapter is connected and functional.
  • Check Type-C USB power source for sufficient output.
No image displayed from camera.
  • Confirm HDMI cable is securely connected to both monitor and camera.
  • Check camera's HDMI output settings.
  • Ensure the monitor's input source is correctly selected.
  • Try a different HDMI cable.
Touch screen unresponsive.
  • Restart the monitor.
  • Ensure the screen is clean and free of debris.
  • Perform a factory reset if necessary (refer to advanced settings in UI).
Monitor overheats.
  • While the monitor has a fanless design and metallic shell for heat dissipation, prolonged use in extreme temperatures may cause warmth. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the monitor's body. For the screen, use a microfiber cloth specifically designed for electronics, optionally dampened with a screen cleaning solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the monitor in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided sun hood or a protective case to prevent scratches.
  • Battery Care: If using lithium batteries, follow the manufacturer's guidelines for charging and storage to prolong battery life. Remove batteries if the monitor will not be used for an extended period.
