1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the SHARP EKJ-18WN-S Electric Kettle. This manual provides important information regarding the safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new appliance. Please read it thoroughly before first use and keep it for future reference.

2. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

• Read all instructions before use.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
• To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse the cord, plugs, or the kettle base in water or other liquids.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
• Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Contact customer support for assistance.
• The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
• Do not use outdoors.
• Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
• Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
• Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
• Boil-Dry Protection: The kettle is equipped with boil-dry protection. If the kettle is switched on without sufficient water, it will automatically switch off. Allow it to cool down before refilling with water.
• Automatic Cut-off: The kettle will automatically switch off once the water has boiled, ensuring safety and energy efficiency.
• Cool Touch Handle: The handle is designed to remain cool during operation for safe handling.

4. Setup and First Use

1. Unpack: Carefully remove the kettle and all accessories from the packaging. Retain packaging for future storage or transport.
2. Clean: Before first use, fill the kettle with clean water to the MAX level. Boil the water, then discard it. Repeat this process 2-3 times to remove any manufacturing residues.
3. Placement: Place the power base on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface, away from the edge of the counter.
4. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a suitable wall outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

1. Fill the Kettle: Press the lid release button to open the lid. Fill the kettle with the desired amount of water, ensuring it is between the MIN and MAX marks on the water level indicator. Do not overfill.
2. Close the Lid: Close the lid firmly until it clicks into place.
3. Place on Base: Position the kettle onto the 360-degree swivel power base.
4. Switch On: Press the power switch down. The light indicator will illuminate, indicating that the kettle is heating.
5. Boiling: The kettle will begin to heat the water. It typically boils 1.8 liters of water within 5-7 minutes.
6. Automatic Shut-off: Once the water has boiled, the kettle will automatically switch off, and the light indicator will extinguish.
7. Pouring: Carefully lift the kettle from its base and pour the hot water. The cool-touch handle ensures safe handling.
8. Re-boiling: If you need to re-boil water immediately, wait a few seconds for the automatic cut-off mechanism to reset before switching it on again.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning will help maintain the performance and longevity of your kettle.

1. Before Cleaning: Always unplug the kettle from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
2. Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the kettle with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they may scratch the stainless steel finish.
3. Interior Cleaning (Descaling): Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) may build up inside the kettle, especially in hard water areas.
   • Fill the kettle with a mixture of one part white vinegar and two parts water.
   • Boil the mixture and let it stand for at least 30 minutes, or longer for heavy deposits.
   • Pour out the mixture and rinse the interior thoroughly with fresh water several times.
   • For stubborn deposits, you may need to repeat the process or use a commercial descaling solution following its instructions.
