3. Setup

3.1. Battery Installation

The MOICO T5 radios require 4 AAA batteries per unit (not included).

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  3. Press down on the latch and slide the cover downwards to remove it.
  4. Insert 4 AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.

3.2. Attaching the Belt Clip

To attach the belt clip, align the clip with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it locks into place. To remove, push the release tab and slide the clip downwards.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Power On/Off

  • To Power On: Press and hold the Power (⑂) button until the LCD screen illuminates and you hear a tone.
  • To Power Off: Press and hold the Power (⑂) button until the LCD screen turns off.

4.2. Adjusting Volume

Use the Up (▲) and Down (▼) buttons to adjust the listening volume. The volume level is displayed on the LCD screen.

4.3. Channel Selection

  1. Press the MENU button once. The channel number will flash on the LCD.
  2. Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select your desired channel (1-22).
  3. Press the PTT button to confirm your selection and exit the menu, or press MENU again to move to the next setting.

4.4. CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System)

CTCSS tones help filter out unwanted conversations on a channel. Both radios must be set to the same channel and CTCSS tone to communicate.

  1. Press the MENU button twice. The CTCSS code will flash.
  2. Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select a CTCSS code (01-99). Select '00' to disable CTCSS.
  3. Press the PTT button to confirm and exit, or MENU to proceed.

4.5. VOX (Voice Activated Transmission)

VOX allows hands-free operation. The radio transmits when it detects your voice.

  1. Press the MENU button three times. The VOX icon and sensitivity level will flash.
  2. Use the Up (▲) or Down (▼) buttons to select a sensitivity level (1-3, with 3 being most sensitive) or 'OFF' to disable VOX.
  3. Press the PTT button to confirm and exit, or MENU to proceed.

4.6. Scan Function

The scan function allows you to search for active channels.

  • Press the SCAN (▲) button once. The radio will begin scanning through channels.
  • When an active channel is found, the radio will pause on that channel.
  • Press the PTT button to transmit on the active channel, or press SCAN again to resume scanning.

4.7. Call Tone

You can send an audible call tone to other radios on the same channel.

  • Quickly press the PTT button twice to send a call tone.

4.8. Keypad Lock

To prevent accidental changes to your settings:

  • Press and hold the MENU (🔒) button until the lock icon appears on the LCD.
  • To unlock, press and hold the MENU (🔒) button again until the lock icon disappears.

4.9. Flashlight Operation

The integrated LED flashlight provides illumination.

  • Press the Lamp (💡) button once to turn the flashlight on.
  • Press the Lamp (💡) button again to turn the flashlight off.

4.10. Monitor Function

The monitor function allows you to listen to weak signals on the current channel by temporarily overriding the squelch setting.

  • Press and hold the MON (▼) button to activate the monitor function.
  • Release the button to deactivate.

5. Communication Range

The actual communication range of your MOICO T5 radios can vary significantly based on environmental factors, terrain, and obstructions. The stated maximum ranges are under ideal conditions.

  • Up to 5 Miles: In mountainous or valley areas with minimal obstructions.
  • Up to 3 Miles: In open areas such as rural landscapes, suburbs, or seaside environments without significant barriers.
  • 0.6 - 1.5 Miles: In urban environments with numerous tall buildings and other obstructions.

Factors that can affect range include:

  • Terrain: Hills, mountains, and dense foliage reduce range.
  • Obstructions: Buildings, metal structures, and vehicles can block signals.
  • Weather Conditions: Heavy rain or snow can slightly degrade signal quality.
  • Electromagnetic Interference: Other electronic devices can cause interference.
