Operating Your Automatic Watch

Automatic Movement (4R34 Caliber)

Your Seiko SSK003 watch is equipped with an automatic mechanical movement. This means it is powered by the motion of your wrist. When worn regularly, the watch will self-wind and maintain its power reserve. If the watch stops due to insufficient movement, it can be manually wound by rotating the crown in the normal position (without pulling it out) for approximately 20-30 turns. The 4R34 caliber provides a power reserve of approximately 41 hours when fully wound.

GMT Functionality

The GMT function allows you to track two different time zones simultaneously. The main hour and minute hands display your local time, while the red-tipped GMT hand, in conjunction with the 24-hour bezel, indicates the time in a second time zone. This is particularly useful for travelers or individuals who communicate across different time zones.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning Your Watch

To maintain the appearance and hygiene of your watch, regularly clean the case and bracelet. Use a soft cloth dampened with mild soap and water. For hard-to-reach areas, a soft brush (like a toothbrush) can be used. Ensure the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down (if applicable) before cleaning to prevent water ingress. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Water Resistance

The Seiko SSK003 is water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar). This rating makes it suitable for everyday use, including showering, swimming, and snorkeling. However, it is not designed for scuba diving. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down before exposing the watch to water. Avoid operating the crown or pushers while the watch is wet or submerged.

Troubleshooting

  • Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, it may need to be manually wound. Rotate the crown clockwise in the normal position for 20-30 turns. Ensure regular wear to keep the automatic movement powered.
  • Inaccurate Time: Automatic watches can have slight variations in accuracy. If the time is consistently inaccurate beyond acceptable limits, consult an authorized Seiko service center. Avoid exposing the watch to strong magnetic fields.
  • Date Not Changing: Ensure the time is set correctly for AM/PM. The date typically changes around midnight. If the date is stuck, try manually advancing it using the crown in the first click position.
  • Water Inside Watch: If you notice condensation or water inside the watch, immediately take it to an authorized Seiko service center. Do not attempt to open the watch yourself.
