1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the GODOX Lux Junior Retro Camera Flash. This compact flash unit is designed for use with various hot-shoe cameras, offering both automatic and manual exposure control. The Lux Junior features a Guide Number (GN) of 12, a color temperature of 6000K, and adjustable flash power from 1/1 to 1/64. Its fixed 28mm focal length (equivalent) provides broad coverage for general photography.

2. Safety Precautions

• Do not disassemble or modify the flash unit. Unauthorized modifications can lead to electric shock or malfunction.
• Keep the device out of reach of children.
• Avoid direct eye exposure to the flash, especially at close range, as it can cause temporary vision impairment.
• Use only specified AA batteries. Incorrect battery types or improper installation can cause leakage, overheating, or explosion.
• Do not operate the flash in environments with flammable gases or liquids.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the flash unit.
2. Open the cover and insert two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2 Mounting the Flash

1. Slide the flash's hot shoe mount into your camera's hot shoe.
2. Secure the flash by tightening the locking mechanism on the hot shoe mount.

4.3 Connecting to Camera (Optional)

For cameras without a hot shoe or for off-camera use, connect the flash to your camera's PC sync port using the provided sync cable. Ensure the cable is securely plugged into both the flash and the camera.

5. Operating Modes

The Lux Junior offers several operating modes, selected via the mode shifting lever and control dial.

5.1 Auto Mode (A)

In Auto mode, the flash automatically adjusts its output based on the ambient light and your camera's aperture and ISO settings. This mode simplifies exposure calculation, making it suitable for quick shooting with both digital and film cameras. Refer to the manual's guide number chart (if available) or experiment to find optimal camera settings for various distances.

5.2 Manual Mode (M)

Manual mode provides full control over the flash power output. Use the vintage manual dial to select power levels from 1/1 (full power) down to 1/64. This mode is ideal for creative lighting control and consistent results in controlled environments.

5.3 Slave Modes (S1/S2)

The Lux Junior includes two optical slave modes for off-camera triggering:

• S1 Mode: The flash will fire in response to the first flash from a master flash. This is suitable for manual master flashes.
• S2 Mode: The flash will ignore the pre-flash from a TTL master flash and fire on the main flash. This is useful when using a camera's built-in flash or another TTL flash as a trigger.

6. Basic Operation

6.1 Power On/Off

To power on the flash, move the mode shifting lever to your desired operating mode (A, M, S1, or S2). To power off, move the lever to the 'OFF' position.

6.2 Adjusting Settings

Rotate the vintage manual dial to select the desired flash power in Manual mode or to adjust other settings as indicated by the dial in Auto mode.

6.3 Test Flash

Press the test button (usually a red button on the flash body) to fire a test flash and confirm functionality and light output.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the flash unit. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.

7.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the flash in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

• Flash not firing: Check battery installation and charge level. Ensure the flash is securely mounted and powered on. Verify camera settings and sync cable connection if applicable.
• Incorrect exposure: In Auto mode, ensure camera aperture and ISO settings are appropriate for the distance. In Manual mode, adjust flash power output. Check for obstructions or excessive ambient light.
• Slow refresh rate: This is normal for compact flashes, especially at full power. Allow time for the flash to recycle. Ensure batteries are fresh.
