3.1. Controls and Ports
- SET Button: Used to enter setting modes for time and alarm.
- UP Button: Used to increase values or navigate menu options.
- DOWN Button: Used to decrease values or navigate menu options.
- RESET Button: Resets the clock to factory defaults.
- DC 5V Input: For connecting the USB power adapter.
- Battery Compartment: Holds 3x AAA batteries for backup power (batteries not included).
4. Setup
4.1. Powering the Clock
The Karlsson KA5878BK alarm clock can be powered via the included USB adapter cable or by 3x AAA batteries (not included) for backup.
- USB Power: Connect the small end of the USB power adapter cable to the DC 5V input port on the back of the clock. Connect the other end to a standard USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port).
- Battery Backup: Open the battery compartment on the back of the clock. Insert 3x AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-). Batteries are for backup only and will not power the main display continuously.
Upon first power-up, the display will illuminate, and the clock will be ready for time setting.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Setting the Time
- Press and hold the SET button for 3 seconds to enter time setting mode. The hour digits will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the hour.
- Press SET again to confirm the hour and move to minute setting. The minute digits will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the minute.
- Press SET again to confirm the minute and move to 12/24-hour format selection. "12H" or "24H" will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to select your preferred time format.
- Press SET one last time to save all settings and exit time setting mode.
5.2. Setting the Alarm
- From normal time display, press the SET button once briefly. "AL" will appear, and the alarm hour digits will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the alarm hour.
- Press SET again to confirm the alarm hour and move to alarm minute setting. The alarm minute digits will flash.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to adjust the alarm minute.
- Press SET again to confirm the alarm minute. The display will show "ON" or "OFF" for the alarm.
- Use the UP or DOWN buttons to toggle the alarm ON or OFF.
- Press SET one last time to save the alarm settings and exit.
When the alarm sounds, press any button (except RESET) to activate snooze. The alarm will sound again after approximately 5 minutes. To turn off the alarm completely, press the RESET button or follow the alarm setting steps to set it to "OFF".
5.3. Adjusting Display Brightness
The clock features multiple brightness levels. While in normal time display mode:
- Press the UP button repeatedly to cycle through different brightness levels (e.g., Bright, Medium, Dim, Off).
- Select the desired brightness level. The setting will be saved automatically.
5.4. Temperature Display
The clock displays temperature in either Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F).
- While in normal time display mode, press the DOWN button briefly to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the clock's surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that may damage the finish or display.
- Battery Replacement: If using battery backup, replace AAA batteries when the display dims or settings are lost during power outages. Ensure correct polarity.
- Storage: If storing the clock for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
