Figure 1: Wiltec Sand Filter System (Model 63342)
The Wiltec Sand Filter System combines a self-priming pool pump with a 14-liter sand filter tank, designed for effective water purification in pools.
2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury and damage to the equipment:
- Ensure the power supply matches the specifications of the pump.
- Disconnect power before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
- Do not operate the pump if the power cord is damaged.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the system during operation.
- Install the system on a stable, level surface, protected from direct sunlight and rain.
- Ensure proper ventilation around the pump motor.
3. Components and Parts
The Wiltec Sand Filter System consists of the following main components:
- Sand Filter Tank (14 liters capacity)
- Self-priming Pool Pump (180W)
- 5-Way Multiport Valve
- Pressure Gauge
- Connecting Hoses and Clamps
- Drain Plug

A closer look at the various connection parts, including hose adapters for different diameters (32mm, 38mm, 47.5mm), hose clamps, and sealing tape, essential for proper setup.
4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation:
- Positioning: Place the sand filter system on a firm, level surface near the pool, ensuring it is below the pool's water level for optimal self-priming. Maintain adequate space for maintenance.
- Filling the Filter Tank:
- Remove the multiport valve from the tank.
- Place the standpipe (with diffuser) inside the tank.
- Fill the tank with filter sand (not included) according to the manufacturer's recommendations, typically up to the indicated fill line. Ensure sand does not enter the standpipe.
- Carefully reattach the multiport valve, ensuring the standpipe aligns correctly with the valve's opening.
- Connecting Hoses:
- Connect the pool's skimmer/drain outlet to the pump's inlet.
- Connect the pump's outlet to the "PUMP" port on the multiport valve.
- Connect the "RETURN" port on the multiport valve to the pool's return inlet.
- Connect a backwash hose to the "WASTE" port on the multiport valve, directing it to a suitable drainage area.
- Secure all hose connections with clamps to prevent leaks.
- Electrical Connection: Connect the pump to a grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the power supply matches the pump's voltage (230V).
5. Operating Instructions
The 5-way multiport valve allows for different operational modes:

Figure 4: Multiport Valve Settings
The valve offers various settings for comprehensive pool maintenance, including filtering, backwashing, rinsing, and a winter setting.
- Filter: For normal filtration. Water flows through the sand, trapping debris, and returns to the pool.
- Backwash: For cleaning the filter sand. Water flows in reverse, flushing trapped debris out through the waste port. Perform when pressure gauge reads high or water flow is reduced.
- Rinse: Used after backwashing to flush out any remaining dirty water from the valve and pipes before returning to filter mode.
- Waste/Drain: Bypasses the filter, sending water directly to the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
- Closed: Shuts off all flow to the filter. Use when performing maintenance on the pump or filter.
- Winter: Position for winterizing the system, allowing water to drain from the valve to prevent freezing.
Important: Always turn off the pump before changing the multiport valve setting to prevent damage.

Figure 5: Filtration Process Overview
This diagram visually explains how the sand filter system works, demonstrating the path of untreated water from the pool through the filter media and the return of clean, filtered water back into the pool, ensuring a cleaner and safer swimming environment.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your sand filter system.
6.1 Backwashing and Rinsing
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multiport valve to "BACKWASH".
- Turn on the pump and run until the water in the sight glass (if available) runs clear (approx. 2-3 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multiport valve to "RINSE".
- Turn on the pump and run for about 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multiport valve to "FILTER" for normal operation.
- Turn on the pump.
6.2 Sand Replacement
Filter sand typically needs to be replaced every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water quality. Consult a pool professional if unsure.
6.3 Winterization
Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump, filter tank, and hoses. Set the multiport valve to "WINTER" or an equivalent open position to prevent damage from freezing water. Store the pump in a dry, frost-free location.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump not priming / No water flow | Low water level in pool, air leak in suction line, clogged skimmer/pump basket, pump not filled with water. | Check pool water level, inspect all connections for leaks, clean skimmer/pump basket, fill pump with water before starting. |
| Low flow rate | Dirty filter sand, clogged impeller, partially closed valve, undersized pump. | Perform backwash and rinse, clean pump impeller, ensure all valves are fully open, verify pump size is adequate for pool volume. |
| High pressure gauge reading | Dirty filter sand. | Perform backwash and rinse cycle. |
| Water not clear | Insufficient filtration time, dirty filter sand, improper chemical balance, too much debris. | Increase filtration time, backwash filter, test and adjust pool chemicals, remove large debris manually. |
