1. Introduction
The CHICIRIS F999L is an advanced electronic leak detector designed to identify the precise location of underground pipeline leaks by detecting the noise generated at the source. This device is engineered for versatility, offering adjustable sensitivity and frequency modes to adapt to various environmental conditions and leak types. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including residential water supply systems, fire suppression pipelines, floor heating systems, general construction pipelines, and municipal infrastructure.

3. Product Overview
The main unit of the CHICIRIS F999L features several controls and connection points for effective operation.

Figure 3.1: Detailed view of the CHICIRIS F999L main unit with labeled controls.
- Tone Knob and Power Switch: Turn clockwise to power on the device and increase the volume. Turn counter-clockwise to decrease the tone and power off.
- Frequency Selection Knob: Use this knob to select the appropriate frequency range (1-4 files, 200Hz-3000Hz) based on the specific environment and type of leak being investigated.
- Sensor Jack (MIC): Connect the external sensors (ground sensor or listening handle) here.
- Headphone Jack (EAR): Connect the included headphones for audio monitoring of leak sounds.
- Noise Reduction Switch (F-B): Dial to the 'B' position to activate the noise reduction function, which helps filter out ambient noise. Dial to the 'F' position to turn off noise reduction.
- Sensitivity Adjustment Knob: The screen displays the sensitivity level. Turn clockwise to increase the display sensitivity, making the device more responsive to faint sounds. Turn counter-clockwise to reduce sensitivity.
- Charging Jack (DC): Connect the charger here to recharge the device's internal battery.

4. Setup
- Charge the Device: Before first use, connect the charger to the Charging Jack (7) and plug it into a power outlet. Ensure the device is fully charged for optimal performance.
- Connect Sensors: Depending on your application, connect either the ground sensor or the listening handle to the Sensor Jack (3).
- Connect Headphones: Plug the included headphones into the Headphone Jack (4).

5. Operating Instructions
- Power On: Turn the Tone Knob and Power Switch (1) clockwise to power on the device. Adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.
- Select Frequency: Use the Frequency Selection Knob (2) to choose an appropriate frequency range. Start with a broad range and narrow it down as you pinpoint the leak. Different materials and depths may require different frequencies for optimal detection.
- Activate Noise Reduction (Optional): If operating in a noisy environment, switch the Noise Reduction Switch (5) to the 'B' position to minimize interference.
- Adjust Sensitivity: Turn the Sensitivity Adjustment Knob (6) to increase or decrease the device's sensitivity. A higher value indicates closer proximity to the leak source. Adjust as needed to clearly hear leak sounds without excessive background noise.
- Leak Detection: Place the sensor firmly on the surface above the suspected pipeline. Listen carefully through the headphones for distinct leak sounds. Observe the display for signal strength, which will typically increase as you move closer to the leak.
- Pinpointing the Leak: Move the sensor systematically across the area. The point where the sound is loudest and the display shows the highest signal strength is likely the location of the leak.
- Power Off: After use, turn the Tone Knob and Power Switch (1) counter-clockwise until the device powers off.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the main unit and sensors with a soft, dry cloth after each use. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Care: The device uses a built-in lithium-ion battery. Recharge the battery when the indicator shows low power. Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan. If storing for an extended period, charge the battery to approximately 50% and recharge every few months.
- Storage: Store the device and its accessories in the provided portable aluminum box in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No sound or very weak sound | Headphones not connected properly; Volume too low; Sensor not making good contact; Sensitivity too low; Battery low. | Ensure headphones are fully plugged in. Increase volume using knob (1). Ensure sensor is firmly placed. Increase sensitivity using knob (6). Recharge the device. |
| Inaccurate or inconsistent readings | Incorrect frequency selected; High ambient noise; Sensor not positioned correctly. | Adjust frequency using knob (2) to match the environment. Activate noise reduction (5). Reposition the sensor for better contact. |
| Device does not power on | Battery is completely discharged. | Connect the charger and allow the device to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again. |
