Located under the handle, the trigger controls the advancement of the glue stick and the dispensing of melted glue. It features a trigger-feed mechanism for consistent glue flow.

  • 3.5 Power Input Port

Located at the base of the handle, this port is for connecting the detachable power cord to heat the glue gun. The glue gun operates cordlessly after reaching optimal temperature.

4. Setup

  1. Prepare Work Area: Ensure your work surface is clean, dry, and protected from potential glue drips. Work in a well-ventilated area.
  2. Insert Glue Stick: Insert an 11mm diameter glue stick into the feeder opening at the back of the glue gun until it stops. Do not force it.
  3. Connect Power: Plug the detachable power cord into the power input port at the base of the glue gun handle. Then, plug the other end of the power cord into a standard 220-240V, 50Hz electrical outlet.

Figure 6: The STANLEY glue gun shown with its detachable power cord. The cord is used to heat the gun before cordless operation.

  4. Heat Up: Allow the glue gun to heat for approximately 3-5 minutes to reach its optimum melting temperature (up to 120°C). For initial cordless use, it is recommended to heat for 10-12 minutes. The gun will then be ready for cordless operation for approximately 10-15 minutes.
  5. Position Stand: Ensure the built-in stand is extended to support the glue gun when resting, keeping the hot nozzle elevated from surfaces.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Apply Glue: Once the glue gun is heated, gently press the trigger to dispense melted glue. Apply glue to one surface you wish to bond. The trigger-feed mechanism ensures consistent glue flow.
  2. Bond Surfaces: Immediately press the two surfaces together firmly. Hot melt glue hardens quickly, typically within seconds.
  3. Continuous Use: As the glue stick shortens, insert a new one into the feeder to push the remaining stick forward.
  4. Cordless Operation: After the initial heating period (10-12 minutes), you can unplug the power cord and use the glue gun cordlessly for approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on usage. If the glue flow diminishes, plug the gun back in to reheat.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Nozzle: After the glue gun has completely cooled, gently wipe any excess glue from the nozzle with a dry cloth. Do not attempt to clean the nozzle while it is hot.
  • Cleaning the Body: Wipe the body of the glue gun with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store the glue gun in a clean, dry place, out of reach of children. Ensure it is completely cooled before storing.
  • Never Pull Out Glue Sticks: Do not pull partially used glue sticks out from the back of the gun, as this can damage the feeding mechanism. Allow them to be pushed through by new sticks or melt completely.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Glue not dispensing or very slow flow. Not sufficiently heated; incorrect glue stick size; glue stick jammed.Ensure the gun is plugged in and allowed to heat for the recommended time (3-5 minutes, or 10-12 minutes for cordless use). Use only 11mm glue sticks. Gently push a new glue stick to advance the current one. Do not force.
Glue leaking from the back of the gun.Incorrect glue stick size (too small); glue stick pulled out from the back.Ensure you are using 11mm glue sticks. Never pull glue sticks out from the back; allow them to be pushed through.
Glue gun not heating.Power cord not properly connected; power outlet malfunction.Check that the power cord is securely plugged into both the gun and the electrical outlet. Test the outlet with another appliance.
Cordless operation time is short.Insufficient initial heating time.Ensure the glue gun is heated for the full 10-12 minutes when plugged in before attempting cordless use. Reheat as needed.
