Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Keurig K-Cafe SMART coffee maker for the first time:

1. Unboxing: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure all parts, including the brewer, water reservoir, and milk frother, are present.
2. Water Reservoir Preparation: Remove the water reservoir from the brewer. Wash it with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
3. Filter Installation (if applicable): If your model includes a water filter, soak the filter cartridge in water for 5 minutes and rinse for 90 seconds. Insert the filter into the filter holder and snap it into place at the bottom of the water reservoir.
4. Fill Water Reservoir: Fill the water reservoir with fresh, filtered water up to the MAX fill line. Place the reservoir back onto the brewer, ensuring it is securely seated.

5. First Cleansing Brew: Place a large mug on the drip tray. Lift and lower the brewer handle to close the K-Cup pod holder (do not insert a K-Cup pod). Select a brew size (e.g., 6 oz) and press the K button to start a cleansing brew. Discard the hot water.
6. Connect to WiFi (Optional but Recommended): Scan the QR code provided in your quick start guide or on the machine to download the Keurig app. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your K-Cafe SMART to your home WiFi network. This unlocks BrewID, Barista Mode, and remote brewing features.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

1. Place Mug: Place a mug on the drip tray.
2. Insert K-Cup Pod: Lift the brewer handle and place a K-Cup pod into the K-Cup pod holder. Lower the handle completely to close.
3. Select Brew Settings: Use the control panel to select your desired brew size (6, 8, 10, or 12 oz). You can also adjust strength (Balanced, Rich, Robust, Strong, Intense) and temperature (Warm, Hot, Hotter, X-Hot, Max Hot) settings.

4. Start Brewing: Press the illuminated K button to start brewing. The display will show "Brewing".

Making Lattes & Cappuccinos

The K-Cafe SMART features a built-in milk frother for specialty beverages.

1. Prepare Frother: Remove the frother lid and add your desired milk (dairy or non-dairy alternative) to the appropriate fill line (Latte or Cappuccino). Replace the lid.

2. Select Froth Setting: Place the frother on its base. Press the desired frothing button (Cold, Latte, or Cappuccino). The frother will automatically start.
3. Brew Coffee Shot: While the milk is frothing, insert a K-Cup pod into the brewer. Select the "SHOT" option on the control panel (2 oz or 4 oz). Press the K button to brew the coffee shot directly into your mug.
4. Combine: Once frothing is complete, pour the frothed milk into your coffee shot. Stir and enjoy.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Milk Frother

The frother cup and lid are dishwasher safe (top rack only). The frother base should be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the base in water.

Descaling the Brewer

Over time, calcium deposits (scale) can build up in your brewer, affecting performance. The brewer will indicate when descaling is needed. Refer to the full user manual for detailed descaling instructions, typically involving a descaling solution and multiple rinse cycles.

Cleaning the Water Reservoir & Drip Tray

The water reservoir and drip tray should be regularly cleaned with warm, soapy water and rinsed thoroughly. The drip tray is removable for easy cleaning.

Troubleshooting

• "Add Water" Light On: Ensure the water reservoir is filled to the MAX line and properly seated.
• "No Pod Detected" Message: Ensure a K-Cup pod is correctly inserted and the brewer handle is fully lowered.
• Coffee Not Brewing: Check water level, ensure the brewer is powered on, and the handle is closed. If connected to WiFi, check app for any error messages.
• Weak Coffee: Try selecting a stronger brew strength or a smaller brew size. Ensure the K-Cup pod is fresh.
• Frother Not Working: Ensure the frother is properly seated on its base and the correct button is pressed. Check milk level.
