3.1 Basic Recording and Monitoring

  1. Connect your microphone or instrument to the appropriate input.
  2. Adjust the corresponding Gain knob (Gain 1 or Gain 2) until the "OL" (Overload) indicator light flashes only occasionally during the loudest parts of your performance.
  3. Connect headphones to the Headphone Jack and adjust the Headphone Volume Adjustment knob for comfortable listening.
  4. To monitor your input signal directly without latency, ensure the Direct Monitor switch is engaged. This allows you to hear your performance in real-time.
  5. Adjust the main Output knob to control the volume sent to your studio monitors or other output devices.

3.2 Loopback Function

The Loopback function allows you to mix all audio input from the BGM22's channels (Input 1 and 2) with audio playback from your computer. This combined signal is then sent back to your computer as a 2-channel stereo signal. This is particularly useful for live streaming, podcasting, or recording online meetings where you need to capture both your microphone and computer audio simultaneously.

  • To activate, simply engage the Loopback switch on the rear panel.
  • Configure your recording software (DAW) to record the stereo input from the BGM22.

3.3 Stereo/Mono Output

The BGM22 provides both left and right channel outputs, allowing for stereo recording and playback. This helps in accurately reflecting the spatial position of different sound sources.

Figure 3.2: Diagram explaining stereo output functionality, showing how MIC1 and MIC2 can be routed to left and right channels for separate track recording.

You can switch between stereo and mono output modes depending on your recording or playback needs. This flexibility allows for various recording scenarios, such as recording two separate mono tracks (e.g., vocal and guitar) or a single stereo track.

  • Handling: Handle the device with care. Avoid dropping it or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Connections: Always ensure cables are properly connected and disconnected to prevent damage to the ports.

5. Troubleshooting

  • No Sound Output:
    • Check all cable connections (USB, outputs to speakers/headphones).
    • Ensure the main Output and Headphone Volume knobs are turned up.
    • Verify the BGM22 is selected as the audio input/output device in your computer's sound settings and DAW.
    • Check if the Power Source switch is correctly set and the device is receiving power.
  • Input Signal Too Low/High:
    • Adjust the Gain 1 or Gain 2 knobs for the respective input.
    • Ensure +48V phantom power is enabled for condenser microphones (Input 1 only, via XLR).
    • If using a guitar or bass, ensure the HI-Z Input 2 switch is engaged for Input 2.
  • Latency During Monitoring:
    • Ensure the Direct Monitor switch is engaged for zero-latency monitoring.
    • If monitoring through software (DAW), reduce the buffer size in your DAW's audio settings.
  • Intermittent Connection/Noise:
    • Try a different USB port on your computer.
    • Use a high-quality USB cable.
    • Ensure stable power supply, especially if using the DC 5V input.
    • Avoid placing the interface near sources of electromagnetic interference.
  • Loopback Function Not Working:
    • Ensure the Loopback switch on the rear panel is engaged.
    • Verify your recording software is configured to receive the mixed stereo input from the BGM22.
