5.2 Temperature Unit Selection (°C/°F)

While the device is on, press the MODE button to cycle through available options. Use the Up/Down buttons to select between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).

5.3 Adjustable Emissivity

Emissivity (ε) is the ability of a material to emit thermal energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate measurements, adjust the emissivity setting to match the target material. The default emissivity is 0.95.

To adjust emissivity:

  1. Press the MODE button until the emissivity setting (ε) is displayed.
  2. Use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the value from 0.1 to 0.99.
  3. Press the MODE button again to confirm or wait for auto-save.

Common Emissivity Values:

MaterialEmissivity
Aluminum0.30
Brass, Lead0.50
Iron0.7
Steel0.8
Glass Plate0.85
Frozen Food, Snow, Bricks0.90
Hot Food, Water, Paint0.93
Oil, Wood0.94
Plastic, Paper, Rubber, Asphalt, Asbestos, Carbon, Concrete, Copper0.95
Ice0.98

5.4 Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)

The BSIDE H1 has a D:S ratio of 12:1. This means that for every 12 units of distance from the target, the measured spot diameter is 1 unit. For example, at a distance of 12 cm, the measurement spot will be 1 cm in diameter. To ensure accurate readings, the target should be larger than the spot size.

5.5 Automatic Shut-off

The thermometer will automatically shut off after approximately 10 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.

6. Maintenance
