1. Introduction
This manual provides instructions for the safe and effective use of the BSIDE H1 Infrared Thermometer. This device is designed for non-contact temperature measurement of inanimate objects. It offers safe, accurate, fast, and reliable readings for various applications.
Important: This thermometer is not intended for measuring human or animal body temperature. Readings for living beings will not be accurate.
2. Safety Information
2.1 General Safety
- Read all instructions before use.
- Do not point the laser directly at eyes or indirectly off reflective surfaces.
- Do not use the device near explosive gases, steam, or dust.
- Keep the device away from electromagnetic fields (e.g., arc welders, induction heaters).
- Do not immerse the unit in water.
- If the device is damaged, do not operate it.
- Dispose of batteries properly.
2.2 Laser Safety
The BSIDE H1 uses a Class 2 laser.
- Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser beam.
- Do not stare into the laser beam.
- Do not modify the laser.

5.2 Temperature Unit Selection (°C/°F)
While the device is on, press the MODE button to cycle through available options. Use the Up/Down buttons to select between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F).
5.3 Adjustable Emissivity
Emissivity (ε) is the ability of a material to emit thermal energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate measurements, adjust the emissivity setting to match the target material. The default emissivity is 0.95.
To adjust emissivity:
- Press the MODE button until the emissivity setting (ε) is displayed.
- Use the Up/Down buttons to adjust the value from 0.1 to 0.99.
- Press the MODE button again to confirm or wait for auto-save.
Common Emissivity Values:
| Material | Emissivity |
|---|---|
| Aluminum | 0.30 |
| Brass, Lead | 0.50 |
| Iron | 0.7 |
| Steel | 0.8 |
| Glass Plate | 0.85 |
| Frozen Food, Snow, Bricks | 0.90 |
| Hot Food, Water, Paint | 0.93 |
| Oil, Wood | 0.94 |
| Plastic, Paper, Rubber, Asphalt, Asbestos, Carbon, Concrete, Copper | 0.95 |
| Ice | 0.98 |

5.4 Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)
The BSIDE H1 has a D:S ratio of 12:1. This means that for every 12 units of distance from the target, the measured spot diameter is 1 unit. For example, at a distance of 12 cm, the measurement spot will be 1 cm in diameter. To ensure accurate readings, the target should be larger than the spot size.
5.5 Automatic Shut-off
The thermometer will automatically shut off after approximately 10 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Clean the lens with a soft, damp cloth or cotton swab. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Clean the device casing with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Do not immerse the device in water.
6.2 Storage
- Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Remove batteries if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
- Storage temperature: -10°C to 40°C (14°F to 104°F).
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on | Low or dead batteries; Incorrect battery installation | Replace batteries; Check battery polarity |
| Inaccurate readings | Incorrect emissivity setting; Target too small; Distance too far; Lens dirty | Adjust emissivity; Ensure target is larger than spot; Reduce distance; Clean lens |
| "HI" or "LO" displayed | Temperature is outside the measurement range | Measure within the specified range (-50°C to 550°C) |
