3. Features

  • Exceptional Heat Dissipation: Constructed with a premium aluminum alloy casing, this enclosure offers superior durability and protection. It integrates a silicone thermal pad and an aluminum heatsink, providing a triple-layer heat dissipation solution to maintain stable SSD performance even under heavy loads.
  • NVMe M.2 SSD Compatibility: Designed for 2280 M.2 NVMe SSDs (M-Key only), supporting capacities up to 4TB. It accommodates both single-sided and double-sided SSD modules.
  • 40Gbps Ultra-High-Speed Data Transfer: Leveraging the latest USB4.0 standard, this enclosure achieves data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. This is approximately four times faster than the USB 3.1 (10Gbps) standard. Typical test speeds show read rates of 2700MB/s and write rates of 1400MB/s. Note: When connected to a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 port, the transfer speed will be limited to 10Gbps.
  • Broad Compatibility: Includes a versatile USB-C to USB-C/A 2-in-1 cable, enabling seamless connection to devices equipped with either USB-C or USB-A ports. It supports various operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, Linux, and Android, without requiring additional drivers. Note: When utilizing a USB-A connection, the transfer speed will be limited to 10Gbps.

5. Operating Instructions

Once your SSD is installed, connect the enclosure to your computer using the provided USB-C to USB-C/A cable. The enclosure is plug-and-play and does not require additional drivers for most operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Android).

  • Connection: Use the USB-C end of the cable to connect to the enclosure and the appropriate USB-C or USB-A end to your host device.
  • Initialization: For new SSDs, you may need to initialize and format the drive through your operating system's disk management utility before it appears as a usable storage device.
  • Data Transfer: Drag and drop files or use your system's copy/paste functions to transfer data to and from the external SSD.
  • Safe Ejection: Always safely eject the drive from your operating system before disconnecting the cable to prevent data corruption.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Yottamaster M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the enclosure. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the enclosure in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Handle the enclosure with care to avoid drops or impacts, which could damage the internal SSD or the enclosure itself.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Yottamaster official website for any available firmware updates for your enclosure model.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Yottamaster M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Enclosure not detected by computer:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the enclosure and the computer.
    • Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
    • Test with a different USB cable if available.
    • For new SSDs, ensure the drive has been initialized and formatted in your operating system's disk management utility.
  • Slow data transfer speeds:
    • Ensure you are connected to a USB4 or Thunderbolt 3/4 port on your computer for maximum 40Gbps speeds.
    • Connecting to a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 port will limit speeds to 10Gbps, not 20Gbps as some might expect.
    • Using the USB-A connector on the 2-in-1 cable will also limit speeds to 10Gbps.
    • Verify that your SSD itself is capable of high speeds.
    • Close other applications that might be consuming system resources or disk I/O.
  • Enclosure feels warm during use:
    • It is normal for the aluminum enclosure to become warm during high-speed data transfer, as it acts as a heatsink to dissipate heat from the SSD.
    • Ensure the thermal pad and heatsink are correctly installed on the SSD.
    • If the enclosure becomes excessively hot and performance degrades, ensure it is placed in a well-ventilated area.
