5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Preparing for Operation
- Ensure the mixing bowl and desired attachment are securely installed.
- Add your ingredients to the mixing bowl.
- Lower the motor head until it locks into place. The motor safety lock prevents operation if the head is not fully lowered.

5.2 Speed Selection and Smooth Start Function
The Smeg SMF03PGEU features 10 speed levels and a Smooth Start function for optimal mixing results.
- Turn the speed control lever to the desired speed setting (1-10).
- The Smooth Start function ensures a gradual and gentle activation, preventing ingredients from splashing out of the bowl, especially at lower speeds.
- Adjust the speed as needed during mixing. Higher speeds are generally for whipping and aerating, while lower speeds are for gentle mixing and kneading.
5.3 Recommended Usage for Attachments
- Wire Whisk: Use for light mixtures such as egg whites, cream, meringues, and thin batters. Start at low speed and gradually increase.
- Flat Beater: Use for medium to heavy mixtures like cakes, cookies, pastries, and mashed potatoes.
- Dough Hook: Use for kneading yeast doughs for bread, pizza, and pasta. Use at low speeds (1-3) to avoid overworking the motor.
- Flexible Edge Beater: Ideal for thoroughly mixing ingredients, especially sticky batters, without stopping to scrape the bowl.
5.4 After Use
- Turn the speed control lever to '0' (off) and unplug the mixer from the power outlet.
- Tilt the motor head back using the release lever.
- Remove the attachment by pushing up and rotating clockwise.
- Remove the mixing bowl by twisting it counter-clockwise.
