Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to properly set up your HDMI Extender:

  1. Identify Units: Locate the Transmitter (TX) unit and the Receiver (RX) unit. The TX unit is typically labeled "Transmitter" and has an "HDMI OUT" port for loop-out, while the RX unit is labeled "Receiver".
  2. Connect HDMI Source to TX: Connect your HDMI source device (e.g., Blu-ray player, game console, PC) to the HDMI IN port of the TX unit using a high-quality HDMI cable.
  3. Connect HDMI Display to RX: Connect your HDMI display device (e.g., TV, monitor, projector) to the HDMI OUT port of the RX unit using a high-quality HDMI cable.
  4. Connect CAT Cable: Connect a single CAT5e/6 cable between the CAT OUT port of the TX unit and the CAT IN port of the RX unit. Ensure the cable is properly terminated and of sufficient quality for the desired distance and resolution. Shielded CAT6 cable is recommended for optimal performance.
  5. Connect IR Cables (Optional):
    • Connect the IR Blaster cable to the IR OUT port on the TX unit. Position the IR emitter head near the IR sensor of your HDMI source device.
    • Connect the IR Receiver cable to the IR IN port on the RX unit. Position the IR receiver head in a location where it can receive signals from your remote control.
  6. Apply Power: Connect the included 12V/1A DC power adapter to the DC 12V port on the TX unit. Due to Power Over Cable (POC) technology, the RX unit will receive power through the CAT cable and does not require a separate power adapter.
  7. Power On Devices: Power on your HDMI source device and display device.
  8. Verify Connection: Check the indicator lights on both the TX and RX units. A stable light typically indicates a successful connection.

Operating Instructions

EDID Copy Function

The TX unit features an EDID copy switch (often labeled "EDID" or "RX-TX"). This switch allows you to select which EDID information the extender will use:

  • TX Position: When the switch is set to the TX position, the extender will copy the EDID information from the local HDMI loop-out display (if connected). This is useful if you have a display connected directly to the TX unit's HDMI OUT port and want the source to recognize its capabilities.
  • RX Position: When the switch is set to the RX position, the extender will copy the EDID information from the remote display connected to the RX unit. This is the most common setting and ensures the source device outputs a signal compatible with the remote display.

It is recommended to set the EDID switch to the RX position for most installations to ensure compatibility with the main display.

IR Control

The one-way IR transmission allows you to control your HDMI source device from the remote display location. Ensure the IR Blaster and IR Receiver cables are correctly connected and positioned as described in the Setup section.

  • Point your remote control at the IR Receiver head connected to the RX unit.
  • The signal will be transmitted through the CAT cable to the TX unit.
  • The IR Blaster connected to the TX unit will then emit the IR signal towards your source device, allowing you to control it remotely.

Maintenance

The BUNGPUNG HDMI Extender requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure its longevity:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the units. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the units are placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Cable Management: Keep cables neatly organized and avoid sharp bends or excessive tension, which can damage the cables or ports.
  • Power: Disconnect power during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
  • Environment: Avoid exposing the units to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your HDMI Extender, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible Solution
No picture or distorted picture
  • Ensure all HDMI and CAT cables are securely connected.
  • Verify the CAT cable is a high-quality CAT5e/6 and within the recommended length limits for your resolution.
  • Check if the power adapter is correctly connected to the TX unit and the power LED is on.
  • Try setting the EDID switch on the TX unit to the RX position.
  • Test with shorter HDMI cables if possible.
  • Try a different HDMI source or display to isolate the issue.
  • Reduce the resolution of the source device.
No audio
  • Ensure your display's audio settings are correct.
  • Check the audio output settings on your source device.
  • Verify that the HDMI cables support audio transmission.
IR remote control not working
  • Ensure the IR Blaster and IR Receiver cables are correctly plugged into their respective ports (IR OUT on TX, IR IN on RX).
  • Verify the IR emitter head is positioned directly over or very close to the IR sensor of the source device.
  • Ensure the IR receiver head is in a clear line of sight of your remote control.
  • Check if the remote control batteries are working.
Power LED not on
  • Ensure the 12V/1A DC power adapter is securely connected to the TX unit and plugged into a working power outlet.
  • If the TX unit has power but the RX unit does not, check the CAT cable connection and ensure it is not damaged, as the RX unit receives power via POC.
