Follow these steps for proper installation of your Square D X Series Duplex Receptacle. If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified electrician.

1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power to the outlet you are replacing or installing. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
2. Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Unscrew the wall plate and then the mounting screws holding the old receptacle in the electrical box. Carefully pull the old receptacle out and disconnect the wires.
3. Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from the ends of the electrical wires. Ensure the wire ends are clean and straight.
4. Connect Wires: This receptacle supports side pressure plate connections and back wire clamps.
   • Ground Wire (Green or Bare Copper): Connect to the green grounding screw on the receptacle.
   • Hot Wires (Black or Red): Connect to the brass-colored screws.
   • Neutral Wires (White): Connect to the silver-colored screws.

   For side pressure plate connections, insert the stripped wire end directly into the opening next to the screw and tighten the screw firmly. For back wire clamps, insert the stripped wire into the designated clamp opening and tighten the screw.

5. Mount Receptacle: Carefully push the wired receptacle back into the electrical box. Secure it with the provided mounting screws.
6. Install Wall Plate: Attach the decorator wall plate over the receptacle and secure it with its screw(s).
7. Restore Power: Turn the circuit breaker or fuse back ON. Test the receptacle with a known working device.

6. Operating Instructions

The Square D X Series Duplex Receptacle operates like any standard electrical outlet, with added safety and durability features.

• Plugging In Devices: Insert the plug of your electrical device firmly into one of the two outlets. The tamper-resistant shutters may require a slight, even pressure to open.
• Weather Resistance: For outdoor use, ensure the receptacle is installed in a weather-resistant enclosure or box to protect it from direct exposure to rain and moisture, even though the receptacle itself is weather-resistant.
• Tamper Resistance: The internal shutter mechanism is designed to prevent single-prong insertion, enhancing safety, especially in homes with children. Both prongs of a plug must be inserted simultaneously to open the shutters.
