Key Features:
- Weather and Tamper Resistant: Constructed with high-impact resistant thermoplastic materials for superior corrosion, temperature, and UV resistance, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Tamper-resistant shutters prevent insertion of foreign objects.
- Heavy-Duty Design: Ensures superior strength and durability, preventing discoloration and aging.
- Self-Grounding: Features brass contact for direct grounding to metal boxes, eliminating the need for a separate ground screw bond.
- Efficient Installation: Side pressure plates facilitate quick installation with secure push-in connections. Enhanced wire snip access to split circuit break-off tab and a grounding strap hole are designed for speed wrapping installation.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: To avoid fire, shock, or death, turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse box and test that power is off before wiring. All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician or in accordance with local electrical codes. Improper installation can result in serious injury or death.

5. Installation Instructions
Follow these steps for proper installation of your Square D X Series Duplex Receptacle. If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified electrician.
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power to the outlet you are replacing or installing. Turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
- Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Unscrew the wall plate and then the mounting screws holding the old receptacle in the electrical box. Carefully pull the old receptacle out and disconnect the wires.
- Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) of insulation from the ends of the electrical wires. Ensure the wire ends are clean and straight.
- Connect Wires: This receptacle supports side pressure plate connections and back wire clamps.
- Ground Wire (Green or Bare Copper): Connect to the green grounding screw on the receptacle.
- Hot Wires (Black or Red): Connect to the brass-colored screws.
- Neutral Wires (White): Connect to the silver-colored screws.
For side pressure plate connections, insert the stripped wire end directly into the opening next to the screw and tighten the screw firmly. For back wire clamps, insert the stripped wire into the designated clamp opening and tighten the screw.

- Mount Receptacle: Carefully push the wired receptacle back into the electrical box. Secure it with the provided mounting screws.
- Install Wall Plate: Attach the decorator wall plate over the receptacle and secure it with its screw(s).
- Restore Power: Turn the circuit breaker or fuse back ON. Test the receptacle with a known working device.
6. Operating Instructions
The Square D X Series Duplex Receptacle operates like any standard electrical outlet, with added safety and durability features.
- Plugging In Devices: Insert the plug of your electrical device firmly into one of the two outlets. The tamper-resistant shutters may require a slight, even pressure to open.
- Weather Resistance: For outdoor use, ensure the receptacle is installed in a weather-resistant enclosure or box to protect it from direct exposure to rain and moisture, even though the receptacle itself is weather-resistant.
- Tamper Resistance: The internal shutter mechanism is designed to prevent single-prong insertion, enhancing safety, especially in homes with children. Both prongs of a plug must be inserted simultaneously to open the shutters.
7. Maintenance
Minimal maintenance is required for this receptacle.
- Cleaning: To clean the receptacle, first turn off power at the circuit breaker. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the surface. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the receptacle is completely dry before restoring power.
- Periodic Inspection: Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of damage, discoloration, or loose connections. If any issues are observed, turn off power and consult a qualified electrician for inspection or replacement.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your receptacle, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power to Outlet:
- Check the circuit breaker or fuse box to ensure the circuit is not tripped or the fuse is not blown.
- Verify that the power is ON to the circuit.
- If part of a GFCI circuit, check if an upstream GFCI outlet or breaker has tripped.
- Plug Does Not Insert Fully:
- Ensure you are applying even pressure to both prongs of the plug simultaneously. The tamper-resistant shutters require this for proper insertion.
- Inspect the plug for bent or damaged prongs.
- Loose Connection:
- If the receptacle feels loose in the wall, turn off power and tighten the mounting screws.
- If a device plug feels loose in the receptacle, the receptacle may be worn and require replacement by a qualified electrician.
If problems persist after troubleshooting, contact a qualified electrician or Schneider Electric customer support.
