Setup

Follow these steps to set up your DJI LiDAR Range Finder (RS) with a compatible gimbal:

  1. Mounting: Attach the LiDAR Range Finder (RS) to your DJI RS 4 Pro or RS 3 Pro gimbal using the Cold Shoe or 1/4"-20 Mounting Hole. Ensure it is securely fastened.
  2. Connection:
    • Connect the LiDAR Control Cable (USB-C) from the LiDAR Range Finder to the appropriate port on your gimbal.
    • If using a manual lens, connect the Multi-Camera Control Cable (USB-C) to enable communication for autofocus.
  3. Power On: Power on your DJI gimbal. The LiDAR Range Finder (RS) will receive power and data through the connected cables.
  4. Calibration (for Manual Lenses): If using a manual lens, calibration with the new Focus Motor (2022) is required to enable autofocus functionality. Refer to your gimbal's manual for detailed calibration procedures.

Operating Instructions

The LiDAR Range Finder (RS) simplifies focusing for handheld shooting, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Focusing Modes

  • Autofocus (AF): Use the AF/MF switch to select autofocus mode. The LiDAR system will automatically detect and focus on subjects.
  • Manual Focus (MF): Switch to manual focus mode for precise control. The LiDAR data can still assist by providing distance information on the gimbal's display.

Subject Recognition and Tracking

The advanced machine learning capabilities allow the LiDAR Range Finder (RS) to recognize up to five targets simultaneously. You can then select one target for continuous tracking, with an identification distance of up to 9 meters.

Customizable Controls

Utilize the Fn, C1, C2, and C3 buttons to assign custom functions via the DJI gimbal's settings, allowing for quick access to frequently used features.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your LiDAR Range Finder (RS).

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the lens and LiDAR sensor window with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Storage: Store the device in a dry, cool environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the official DJI website or app for firmware updates to ensure the best performance and compatibility.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your LiDAR Range Finder (RS), refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Power: Ensure all cables are securely connected and the gimbal is powered on. Check the USB-C Power/CVBS/CAN Data Port connection.
  • Autofocus Not Working (Manual Lens): Verify that the lens has been properly calibrated with the Focus Motor (2022) and the gimbal. Ensure the AF/MF switch is set to AF.
  • Inaccurate Ranging: Clean the LiDAR sensor window and ensure no obstructions are blocking the sensor's view. Avoid using in environments with heavy fog or smoke if possible.
  • Compatibility Issues: Confirm that your gimbal model (DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 3 Pro) is listed as compatible.
