This manual provides essential instructions for the proper setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Barska Top Opening Keypad Safe, model AX13762. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the safe to ensure optimal performance and security.

Setup

1. Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the safe from its packaging. Inspect the safe for any signs of damage. Ensure all included components are present:

2. Battery Installation

The safe requires 4 AA batteries (included) for the electronic keypad to function. The battery compartment is typically located behind the keypad cover or on the inside of the safe door. Open the safe using one of the backup keys first to access the battery compartment.

  1. Locate the battery compartment.
  2. Insert 4 new AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3. Setting the PIN Code

Your safe comes with a factory default PIN code. It is crucial to change this immediately to a personal code for security. The safe can store one unique 3-8 digit PIN code.

  1. With the safe door open, press the red reset button located on the inside of the door near the hinge. You will hear a beep.
  2. Within 5 seconds, enter your desired 3-8 digit PIN code on the keypad.
  3. Press the '#' button to confirm. You will hear a confirmation beep.
  4. Test the new PIN code with the door open before closing it.

4. Mounting the Safe

The safe features pre-drilled holes and includes mounting hardware to secure it to a flat surface, such as inside a drawer or cabinet. This prevents unauthorized removal of the safe.

  1. Choose a suitable location for mounting.
  2. Mark the drilling points through the pre-drilled holes on the back or bottom of the safe.
  3. Drill pilot holes into the surface.
  4. Align the safe and secure it using the provided mounting hardware.

Operating the Safe

1. Opening with PIN Code

  1. Enter your 3-8 digit PIN code on the keypad.
  2. Press the '#' button.
  3. The safe will unlock, and you can open the lid.

2. Opening with Backup Key

In case of forgotten PIN code, battery failure, or electronic malfunction, the safe can be opened using the provided backup keys.

  1. Locate the keyhole, usually concealed behind the keypad or a small cover.
  2. Insert one of the backup keys and turn it to unlock the safe.
  3. Open the lid.

3. Closing and Locking the Safe

To lock the safe, simply close the lid firmly. The locking bolts will automatically engage.

4. Optional Silent Mode

The safe features an optional silent mode for discreet operation. Refer to the specific instructions in your safe's packaging for activating or deactivating this mode, as the procedure may vary slightly.

5. Low Battery Warning

The keypad will indicate a low battery status, typically with a specific light or sound pattern. Replace batteries promptly when this warning appears to avoid being locked out.

Maintenance

1. Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears, replace all 4 AA batteries with new ones. Do not mix old and new batteries or different battery types. Always use alkaline batteries for optimal performance.

2. Cleaning

Clean the exterior of the safe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or electronic components.

3. Backup Key Storage

Store your backup keys in a secure location away from the safe and not inside the safe itself. This ensures access to the safe if the electronic lock fails or batteries run out.
