4. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ORICO docking station, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the docking station. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Ventilation: Ensure the docking station is placed in a well-ventilated area. While the aluminum alloy design provides superior heat dissipation, prolonged use under heavy load may cause the surface temperature to reach approximately 50°C, which is normal for safe and stable operation.
- Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Cable Management: Avoid bending or twisting cables excessively to prevent damage to the connectors or internal wires.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your docking station, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
5.1 Display Issues
- No display or flickering screen:
- Ensure all video cables (HDMI, DisplayPort) are securely connected to both the docking station and the monitors.
- Verify that the docking station is properly connected to your laptop via the USB-C cable.
- For macOS, confirm that DisplayLink Manager is installed and running, and that necessary screen recording permissions have been granted in System Settings.
- Remember that the DP port and HDMI 1 port cannot be used simultaneously. If you are using both, disconnect one.
- Check your laptop's display settings to ensure external monitors are detected and configured correctly (e.g., extended or mirrored).
- Resolution not 4K:
- Ensure your monitors support 4K resolution and are set to 4K in your operating system's display settings.
- Verify that the HDMI or DisplayPort cables used are rated for 4K@60Hz.
5.2 Power and Charging Issues
- Laptop not charging or charging slowly:
- Ensure you are using an external power adapter that supports 100W Power Delivery and is connected to the docking station's PD IN port. The docking station itself does not include a power adapter.
- Verify that the USB-C cable connecting the docking station to your laptop also supports 100W PD.
- Some laptops may display a warning about insufficient power even when charging, especially under heavy load. Confirm if the battery percentage is increasing.
5.3 Peripheral Connectivity Issues
- USB devices not recognized or intermittent connection:
- Try connecting the USB device to a different port on the docking station.
- Ensure the docking station has sufficient power by connecting a 100W PD power adapter.
- If switching between laptops, you may need to unplug and replug the power or the laptop connection cable to re-establish all connections.
- Ethernet connection unstable or slow:
- Check the Ethernet cable for damage and ensure it is securely connected.
- Verify your network settings on your laptop.
