4.3 Deploying/Folding Tripod Legs

  1. To deploy the tripod legs: Gently pull the three legs outwards from the main body of the grip until they fully extend and lock into position.
  2. To fold the tripod legs: Push the legs inwards towards the main body until they are flush, converting the unit back into a handgrip.

5. Operating

5.1 Using as a Handgrip

With the legs folded, the SmallRig Tripod Grip provides a stable and comfortable handle for handheld shooting. This improves stability and reduces fatigue during extended use, especially when recording video or taking photos from various angles.

5.2 Using as a Mini Tripod

With the legs deployed, the grip transforms into a mini tripod, allowing you to place your camera on a flat surface for stable shots, time-lapses, or self-portraits. Ensure the surface is level to prevent tipping.

5.3 Integrating with Nikon ML-L7 Remote

Once the Nikon ML-L7 remote is securely inserted, you can operate your compatible Nikon camera wirelessly. Refer to your Nikon camera's manual for specific instructions on pairing and using the ML-L7 remote control.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surface of the grip. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the grip in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the 1/4"-20 screw and tripod legs for any signs of wear or damage.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Problem: Camera feels unstable on the grip.
Solution: Ensure the 1/4"-20 screw is tightened securely. Check that the camera's tripod socket is not stripped or damaged.
  • Problem: Tripod legs do not deploy or fold smoothly.
Solution: Check for any obstructions or debris in the leg mechanisms. Apply gentle, even pressure when deploying or folding. Do not force the legs.
  • Problem: Nikon ML-L7 remote does not fit or is loose.
Solution: Ensure the remote is oriented correctly and fully inserted into the slot. If it feels loose, verify it is the correct model (ML-L7) for this grip.
