2. Initial Setup
The CGSULIT SC850 is designed for plug-and-play operation, requiring minimal setup before first use. Follow these steps to begin diagnostics:
- Connect the Diagnostic Cable: Locate your vehicle's 16-pin OBDII diagnostic port, typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side. Plug the diagnostic cable from the SC850 scanner firmly into this port. The device will power on automatically, drawing power directly from the vehicle's OBDII port.
- Turn on Vehicle Ignition: Turn your vehicle's ignition key to the "ON" position (engine off). For push-button start vehicles, press the start button without pressing the brake pedal to turn on the ignition.
- Select Diagnostic Menu: Once the scanner powers on and initializes, navigate the main menu using the device's buttons. Select the "Diagnostic" option to begin scanning your vehicle's systems.

The SC850 supports all 10 modes of OBDII testing, providing a complete picture of your vehicle's emission-related systems:
- Read Codes: Retrieve generic (P0, P2, P3, and U0) and manufacturer specific (P1, P3, and U1) codes.
- Clear Codes: Erase Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and turn off the Check Engine Light (MIL).
- Live Data: View real-time data stream from the vehicle's sensors in text or graph format.
- Freeze Frame Data: View a snapshot of the vehicle's operating conditions at the time an emission-related fault occurred.
- I/M Readiness: Check the readiness of the emission monitors to determine if the vehicle is ready for an emissions test.
- O2 Sensor Test: Retrieve O2 sensor monitor test results for the most recently completed tests from the vehicle's on-board computer.
- On-board Monitor Test: Retrieve results for emission-related powertrain components and systems that are not continuously monitored.
- DTC Lookup: Access a built-in library to quickly understand the definition of fault codes.
- Vehicle Information: Retrieve the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Calibration ID (CALID), and Calibration Verification Number (CVN).
- Component Test: Allow initiation of a leak test for the vehicle's EVAP system.
