Setup

1. Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Ensure the CB radio is turned off.
  2. Align the PNI PB-HP62 Li-ion battery with the battery compartment on the back of the radio and slide it into place until it clicks securely.
  3. To charge the battery, connect the 12V power supply or the 230V to 12V car battery adapter to the charging port on the battery pack or radio.
  4. Plug the adapter into a suitable power source. The charging indicator light will illuminate.
  5. Charge the battery fully before first use.

2. Antenna Connection

  • For Portable Use: Screw the BNC antenna (20 cm) onto the BNC connector at the top of the radio.
  • For Mobile (In-Car) Use: Connect the antenna adapter to the radio's antenna port. Then, connect your external mobile CB antenna (not included) to the adapter.

3. Powering the Unit

  • Portable Mode: Ensure the charged battery is installed.
  • Mobile Mode: Connect the 12V car battery adapter cable to the radio's power input and plug the other end into your vehicle's 12V accessory socket.

Operating Instructions

Basic Operation

  1. Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button (usually combined with volume knob) to turn the radio on or off.
  2. Volume Adjustment: Rotate the volume knob to adjust the audio output level.
  3. Channel Selection: Use the Q.UP and Q.DOWN buttons to navigate through the 40 available channels.
  4. Squelch (SQ) Adjustment: Adjust the squelch knob to eliminate background noise when no signal is present.
  5. Automatic Squelch (ASQ): Press the ASQ button to activate or deactivate the automatic squelch function. This feature automatically adjusts the squelch level for optimal reception. The ASQ has 5 adjustable levels.
  6. Transmit (PTT): Press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio to transmit. Release to receive.

Advanced Functions

  • RF Gain (RFG): Adjust the RF Gain knob to control the receiver's sensitivity, useful in areas with strong or weak signals. It has 9 adjustable levels.
  • Scan (SC): Press the SC button to activate channel scanning. The radio will automatically scan through channels until a signal is detected.
  • Dual Watch (DW): Press the DW button to monitor two channels simultaneously.
  • Keypad Lock (LOCK): Press the LOCK button to prevent accidental button presses.
  • Last Channel Recall (LCR): Use the LCR button to quickly return to the last used channel.
  • VOX: Voice-activated transmission. When enabled, the radio transmits when it detects your voice, without needing to press PTT.
  • Channel Memory: Store frequently used channels for quick access. Refer to the full manual for specific steps on saving and recalling channels.
  • Multicolor Display: The display can show information in various colors for improved visibility.
  • SWR-U Panel: Provides an indication of the antenna's Standing Wave Ratio, crucial for optimal transmission.

Maintenance
