Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your KastKing Brutus Baitcasting Fishing Reel. Please read these instructions carefully before using your reel to ensure optimal performance and longevity. The KastKing Brutus reel is engineered for reliable performance with a lightweight graphite frame, precision brass gears, and an advanced magnetic braking system.

Setup
1. Spooling the Fishing Line
The Brutus reel features a CNC machined aluminum U-shaped spool designed for increased line capacity. To spool your line:
- Securely attach the fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot.
- Ensure the line is wound evenly and tightly onto the spool. Avoid overfilling or underfilling the spool.

2. Handle Installation and Orientation
The reel comes with a solid aluminum handle and non-slip rubber paddles for comfortable use. Ensure the handle is securely fastened. This specific model is designed for left-handed retrieve.

3. Magnetic Braking System Adjustment
The Brutus reel features a 10-button dynamic magnetic braking system to minimize backlashes. Adjust the magnetic brake by rotating the external dial. Higher settings increase braking force, reducing spool speed and preventing overruns, especially useful for lighter lures or windy conditions. Lower settings allow for longer casts with heavier lures.

4. Drag Adjustment
The reel is equipped with a three non-asbestos drag washer system, providing up to 17.6 lbs (7.98 kg) of maximum drag. The star drag knob, located next to the handle, controls the drag tension. Turn clockwise to increase drag and counter-clockwise to decrease it. Set the drag to approximately one-third of your line's breaking strength.
Operating Instructions
1. Casting
Before casting, ensure your magnetic brake and spool tension knob are properly set for your lure weight and casting style. Press the thumb bar to disengage the spool. With your thumb on the spool, make your cast. Release your thumb as the rod loads, then feather the spool with your thumb to prevent backlashes as the lure lands.
2. Retrieving
The 7.2:1 high-speed gear ratio allows for quick line retrieval. Turn the handle to engage the reel. Maintain a steady retrieve speed appropriate for your lure and target species. The 5+1 MaxiDur shielded stainless-steel ball bearings ensure smooth operation.

3. Adjusting Drag During a Fight
During a fish fight, adjust the drag as needed to prevent line breakage. If the fish is pulling hard, slightly loosen the drag. If the fish is running freely, tighten the drag incrementally. Avoid sudden, drastic changes to drag settings.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your KastKing Brutus reel.
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel with fresh water. Wipe it dry with a soft cloth. Do not submerge the reel.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of high-quality reel oil to the ball bearings and moving parts. Use reel grease on the main gears. Refer to the exploded diagram (if available) for specific lubrication points.
- Inspection: Regularly check for loose screws, worn parts, or any signs of damage. Address any issues promptly.
- Storage: Store your reel in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting
- Backlashes/Bird's Nests: This is common with baitcasting reels. Ensure your magnetic brake and spool tension are correctly adjusted for your lure weight. Practice casting technique, feathering the spool with your thumb.
- Stiff Handle/Rough Retrieve: This may indicate a need for cleaning and lubrication. Disassemble the reel carefully, clean components, and re-lubricate. If the issue persists, inspect for damaged bearings or gears.
- Drag Slipping: Check if the drag washers are dry or contaminated. Clean and re-grease drag washers if necessary. Ensure the star drag knob is tightened appropriately.
