1. Introduction

The KODAK EKTAR H35 is a reusable half-frame film camera designed for ease of use and portability. It utilizes standard 35mm film, allowing you to capture twice the number of images per roll compared to full-frame cameras. Its lightweight and focus-free design makes it ideal for everyday photography.

2. Setup

2.1. Inserting the AAA Battery (for Flash)

The KODAK EKTAR H35 requires one AAA alkaline battery to power its built-in flash. Film and battery are not included with the camera.

1. Locate the battery compartment on the side of the camera.
2. Slide the battery compartment cover open.
3. Insert one AAA battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2.2. Loading 35mm Film

The camera uses standard 35mm film. Ensure you are in a dimly lit area when loading film to prevent accidental exposure.

1. Open the camera back by sliding the latch on the side downwards.
2. Insert a new roll of 35mm film into the film chamber on the left side.
3. Pull the film leader across to the take-up spool on the right side. Insert the tip of the film into one of the slots on the take-up spool.
4. Gently turn the film advance wheel (located on the top) a few times to ensure the film is securely caught by the take-up spool and the sprocket teeth engage with the film perforations.
5. Close the camera back firmly until it clicks into place.
6. Advance the film by repeatedly turning the film advance wheel and pressing the shutter button until the film counter (located next to the shutter button) shows '1'. This ensures the first unexposed frame is ready.

3. Operating the Camera

3.1. Taking Photos

The KODAK EKTAR H35 is a point-and-shoot camera with a fixed focus lens, making it very simple to operate.

1. Look through the viewfinder to compose your shot.
2. Press the shutter button located on the top of the camera to take a picture.
3. After each shot, advance the film by turning the film advance wheel until it stops. The film counter will indicate the next available frame.

3.2. Using the Built-in Flash

The camera features a built-in flash for low-light conditions. Ensure a AAA battery is inserted for flash functionality.

1. To activate the flash, rotate the silver ring around the lens until the flash symbol aligns with the dot.
2. Wait a few seconds for the flash to charge. A red light on the back of the camera will illuminate when the flash is ready to fire.
3. To turn off the flash, rotate the silver ring back to its original position.

The flash is essential for indoor or low-light photography.

3.3. Half-Frame Advantage

The half-frame format means each standard 35mm frame is split into two smaller images. This effectively doubles the number of exposures you get from a single roll of film (e.g., a 36-exposure roll yields 72 half-frame photos).

4. Unloading Film

Once you have taken all the photos on your roll, it's time to rewind and unload the film.

1. Press and hold the rewind button located on the bottom of the camera.
2. Rotate the film rewind crank (located on the left side of the camera) clockwise until you feel the tension release, indicating the film is fully rewound into its canister.
3. Open the camera back.
4. Remove the rewound film canister.
5. Close the camera back.

Take the exposed film to a photo lab for development.

5. Accessories

The KODAK EKTAR H35 typically comes with a camera pouch and a hand strap for convenience and protection.

• Camera Pouch: Use the soft pouch to protect your camera from dust and scratches when not in use.
• Hand Strap: Attach the hand strap to the camera's strap lug for secure carrying and to prevent accidental drops.

• Blurry photos: The camera has a fixed focus lens. Ensure your subjects are within the recommended shooting distance (typically 1 meter to infinity). In low light, always use the flash.
