2. Important Safety Instructions

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should be followed, including the following:

  • Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  • Do not operate the microwave oven if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has been damaged or dropped.
  • Do not attempt to service or repair the appliance yourself. Contact qualified service personnel for examination, repair, or adjustment.
  • Do not use corrosive chemicals or vapors in this appliance. This type of oven is specifically designed to heat, cook, or dry food. It is not designed for industrial or laboratory use.
  • Do not heat liquids or other foods in sealed containers since they are liable to explode.
  • Always ensure proper ventilation around the microwave. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Do not use the microwave for anything other than its intended purpose.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the microwave is used by or near children.
  • Always place food on the turntable before cooking.

3. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper setup of your new Farberware Countertop Microwave:

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the microwave oven and all packing materials from the carton. Check the oven for any damage, such as dents or a broken door. Do not install if the oven is damaged.
  2. Placement: Place the microwave on a flat, stable surface that can support its weight and the heaviest food item likely to be cooked in it. Ensure there is adequate space for ventilation around the unit.
  3. Ventilation: Maintain a minimum of 3 inches (7.5 cm) of clearance on the top, sides, and rear of the microwave for proper airflow. Do not place the microwave in an enclosed cabinet.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the microwave into a properly grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the voltage and frequency match the specifications on the rating label.
  5. Turntable Installation: Place the roller ring in the center of the oven cavity. Place the glass turntable on top of the roller ring, ensuring it is seated securely.

4. Operating Instructions

Your Farberware microwave offers a variety of cooking functions for your convenience.

4.1 Basic Operation

  1. Setting the Clock: Press the "Clock" button. Use the number pad to enter the current time. Press "Clock" again to confirm.
  2. Setting Cook Time: Place food in the microwave. Close the door. Press "Time Cook". Enter the desired cooking time using the number pad. Press "Start/+30 Sec." to begin cooking.
  3. Adjusting Power Level: After setting the cook time, press "Power". Use the number pad to select a power level from 1-10 (10 being 100% power). Press "Start/+30 Sec."
  4. Express Cook: For quick cooking, simply press a number from 1 to 6 on the number pad to cook for that many minutes at 100% power. Press "Start/+30 Sec." to add 30 seconds to the current cooking cycle.

4.2 One-Touch Cooking Programs

The microwave includes six pre-programmed settings for common food items:

  • Popcorn: Press "Popcorn".
  • Potato: Press "Potato".
  • Pizza: Press "Pizza".
  • Frozen Vegetable: Press "Frozen Vegetable".
  • Beverage: Press "Beverage".
  • Dinner Plate: Press "Dinner Plate".

For each of these, the microwave will automatically set the optimal cooking time and power level based on typical serving sizes. Refer to the specific program details in the full manual for weight adjustments if applicable.

4.3 Defrosting

You can defrost food by weight or by time:

  • Defrost by Weight: Press "Weight Defrost". Enter the food's weight using the number pad. Press "Start/+30 Sec."
  • Defrost by Time: Press "Time Defrost". Enter the desired defrosting time. Press "Start/+30 Sec."

4.4 Child Safety Lock

To activate the child safety lock, press and hold the "STOP/UNLOCK" button for 3 seconds. The display will show "LOCK" or a lock icon. To deactivate, press and hold the "STOP/UNLOCK" button again for 3 seconds.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your microwave oven. The easy-to-clean interior and exterior simplify this process.

  • Interior Cleaning: After each use, wipe the interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent to remove food splatters. For stubborn stains, place a bowl of water with lemon slices inside and microwave for 2-3 minutes to create steam, then wipe clean.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Clean the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. For stainless steel finishes, use a specialized stainless steel cleaner to maintain its shine and prevent streaks.
  • Turntable and Roller Ring: The glass turntable and roller ring can be removed for cleaning. Wash them in warm, soapy water or in the dishwasher. Ensure they are completely dry before placing them back in the microwave.
  • Door Seal: Regularly clean the door seal and adjacent parts with a soft, damp cloth to ensure a proper seal and efficient operation.
  • Odor Removal: To remove odors, combine 1 cup of water with several tablespoons of lemon juice or vinegar in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 5 minutes, then let it sit in the oven for 10-15 minutes before opening the door and wiping clean.
