Regular replacement of your pool filter cartridge is crucial for maintaining clear pool water and efficient system performance.

3. Installation (Setup)

Proper installation of your new filter cartridge is essential for optimal performance. Always ensure your pool pump is turned off and the system is depressurized before beginning any maintenance.

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker for your pool pump and turn it off to prevent accidental startup.
  2. Depressurize System: Open the air relief valve on top of your filter tank to release any trapped air and pressure.
  3. Drain Filter Tank: Open the drain plug at the bottom of the filter tank to allow water to drain out.
  4. Open Filter Tank: Follow your specific filter system's instructions to open the filter tank. This usually involves loosening a clamp or unscrewing a lid.
  5. Remove Old Cartridge: Carefully lift out the old, dirty filter cartridge. Dispose of it according to local regulations.
  6. Clean Filter Tank: Inspect the inside of the filter tank and clean any debris. Check the O-ring for cracks or wear; replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant.
  7. Install New Cartridge: Carefully lower the new Pureline replacement cartridge into the filter tank, ensuring it seats properly.
  8. Close Filter Tank: Reassemble the filter tank, ensuring the O-ring is correctly seated and the clamp/lid is securely fastened.
  9. Prime Pump & Restart: Close the drain plug. With the air relief valve still open, turn on the pool pump. Once a steady stream of water emerges from the air relief valve, close it. Check for leaks.

4. Operation

Once installed, the Pureline filter cartridge operates as part of your pool's filtration system. Water is drawn from the pool, passes through the pleated filter media, and clean water is returned to the pool. The pleats in the cartridge trap debris and microscopic particles, ensuring clear water.

Monitor your filter's pressure gauge regularly. An increase in pressure indicates that the filter is collecting debris and may require cleaning or replacement.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your filter cartridge is crucial for prolonging its lifespan and maintaining water quality.

5.1. Cleaning the Filter Cartridge

It is recommended to clean your filter cartridge every 3-6 months, or more frequently if your pool experiences heavy use or high debris levels. Signs that your filter needs cleaning include:

  • Increased pressure gauge reading (typically 8-10 PSI above clean operating pressure).
  • Reduced water flow from return jets.
  • Cloudy or dull pool water.

To clean the cartridge:

  1. Turn off the pump and depressurize the system as described in the installation section.
  2. Remove the cartridge from the filter tank.
  3. Rinse the pleats thoroughly with a garden hose, working from top to bottom. Use a specialized filter cleaning tool if available to get into the pleats.
  4. For stubborn dirt, oils, or algae, soak the cartridge overnight in a chemical filter cleaner solution (follow cleaner manufacturer's instructions).
  5. Rinse again thoroughly after soaking.
  6. Reinstall the clean cartridge into the filter tank.

5.2. Cartridge Replacement Frequency

Even with regular cleaning, filter cartridges wear out over time. The Pureline 160 Sq Ft Pool Replacement Cartridge Filter is designed for durability, but typical replacement is recommended every 1-2 years, depending on pool usage, water chemistry, and environmental factors. Replace the cartridge immediately if you notice tears in the media, broken bands, or damaged end caps.
