Kadacha 1/4'' Bike Torque Wrench Kit YC-617WD-2 User Manual

Model: YC-617WD-2

1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and effective use of your Kadacha 1/4'' Bike Torque Wrench Kit, model YC-617WD-2. This precision tool is designed to apply specific torque values to fasteners, preventing over-tightening or under-tightening, which can lead to component damage or failure. The wrench operates within a range of 2-24 Newton-meters (Nm) and is suitable for various bicycle maintenance tasks.

2. Safety Information

Always read and understand all instructions before using this tool. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the tool or components.

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as eye protection, when using the torque wrench.
  • Do not exceed the maximum torque capacity of 24 Nm. Exceeding this limit can damage the wrench and compromise its accuracy.
  • Ensure the correct bit size is selected for the fastener to prevent stripping or damage.
  • Keep the tool clean and free from oil, grease, or other contaminants that could affect grip or accuracy.
  • Store the torque wrench in its protective case when not in use, and keep it out of reach of children.
  • Do not use the torque wrench as a pry bar or hammer.

4. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the torque wrench and all accessories from the storage case.
  2. Inspect: Examine the wrench and bits for any signs of damage or manufacturing defects. Do not use if any damage is observed.
  3. Familiarize: Locate the torque adjustment mechanism, the lock knob, the quick-release button, and the direction switch on the wrench head.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Setting the Torque Value

  1. Identify the required torque value for your fastener (usually specified by the component manufacturer).
  2. Pull down the lock knob located at the base of the handle and hold it.
  3. Rotate the handle to align the desired torque value on the scale. The main scale indicates whole Nm values, and the micro-scale on the handle allows for fine adjustments.
  4. Once the desired torque is set, release the lock knob. It will automatically rebound and lock the setting in place. Verify the setting before proceeding.

5.2. Attaching Bits and Direction

  • Attaching Bits: Press the quick-release button on the wrench head to insert or remove bits. Ensure the bit is fully seated and securely held by the quick-release mechanism.
  • Direction: The wrench head features a paddle switch to adjust the direction of rotation (clockwise or counter-clockwise). Set the switch to the desired tightening direction.

5.3. Applying Torque

  1. Select the appropriate bit and attach it to the torque wrench.
  2. Place the bit onto the fastener.
  3. Apply a slow, steady, and continuous force to the wrench handle. Do not jerk or apply sudden force.
  4. Continue applying force until you hear and feel a distinct "click" from the wrench. This indicates that the preset torque value has been reached.
  5. Immediately stop applying force once the click is detected. Further tightening will result in over-torquing.
  6. Remove the wrench from the fastener.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe the torque wrench with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • Storage: Always store the torque wrench in its protective case. Before storing, set the torque value to the lowest setting (2 Nm) to relieve tension on the internal spring mechanism. This helps maintain the wrench's accuracy over time.
  • Calibration: Torque wrenches are precision instruments and may require periodic calibration to ensure continued accuracy. The frequency of calibration depends on usage and storage conditions. Consult a qualified service center for calibration services.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Wrench does not click:
    • Ensure the desired torque value is set correctly and is within the wrench's operating range (2-24 Nm).
    • Confirm the lock knob is released after setting the torque.
    • The click may be subtle at lower torque settings. Listen carefully and feel for the slight release.
  • Bits slip or strip fasteners:
    • Verify that the correct bit size is selected for the fastener.
    • Ensure the bit is fully seated in the wrench head and the fastener.
    • Inspect both the bit and the fastener for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate torque application:
    • Ensure the wrench is pulled smoothly and steadily, not jerked.
    • Avoid using extensions on the handle, as this can affect accuracy.
    • The wrench may require professional calibration if accuracy issues persist.
