1. Introduction

2. Setup
2.1 Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the handset.
- Connect the battery pack connector securely into the jack inside the compartment.
- Place the battery pack with the label UP and tuck the wires neatly inside the compartment.
- Close the battery compartment cover.
2.2 Base Unit Connection
- Plug the large end of the power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
- Plug the small end of the power adapter into the power jack on the back of the telephone base.
- Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the telephone wall jack.
- Plug the other end of the telephone line cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the telephone base.
2.3 Initial Charging
Place the handset in the telephone base or charger with the display facing up. The CHARGE light on the handset will turn on, indicating proper charging. For optimal battery performance, charge the handset for at least 16 hours before initial use.
3. Operating Your Phone
3.1 Making and Receiving Calls
- To make a call: Press HOME/FLASH or CELL, then dial the number.
- To answer a call: Press any dialing key (1-9, *, #), HOME/FLASH, or CELL.
- To end a call: Press OFF/CANCEL or place the handset in the telephone base/charger.
3.2 Digital Answering System
The integrated digital answering system records up to 22 minutes of messages, announcements, and memos. It features an LED message counter on the base.

- Playing Messages: Press the PLAY/STOP button on the telephone base.
- Setting up: A built-in voice guide assists with initial setup of the answering system.
3.3 Bluetooth Connect to Cell
This feature allows you to make and receive cellular calls using your VTech cordless handset. You can pair up to two cell phones or one cell phone and one Bluetooth headset.

- Accessing Voice Assistants: Access Siri or Google Now from the cordless handsets, even if your smartphone is in another room.

3.4 Smart Call Blocker
The Smart Call Blocker feature helps filter robocalls and unwanted calls. You can permanently blacklist up to 1,000 numbers with one touch.

- Blocking Robocalls: Set the system to ask callers to press the pound key.
- Blocking Unknown Callers: Set the system to ask callers to record their names and press the pound key. The phone will ring and announce the caller's name, allowing you to accept, block, or forward the call.
3.5 Intercom Between Handsets
Transfer calls or communicate directly between handsets within your system without using the landline.

3.6 Caller ID / Call Waiting
The system displays the caller's information on the large 2-inch screen. It stores up to 50 name and number caller ID history entries.

3.7 Speakerphone and Visual Ringer
The handset features a full-duplex speakerphone for natural conversations. A visual ringer on top of the handset flashes to indicate an incoming call, useful in noisy environments or for those with hearing impairment.

3.8 Volume Control
Adjust the incoming call volume easily using the dedicated volume buttons on both the handset and the base unit.

3.9 Expandability
The VTech VS112-17 system is expandable up to 5 handsets using accessory models VS112-0 or VS112-07, requiring only one phone jack for the base unit.
4. Maintenance
To keep your phone system in good condition, follow these guidelines:
- Clean the phone with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning sprays or harsh chemicals.
- Avoid placing the phone in direct sunlight or in areas with high humidity or extreme temperatures.
- Keep the phone away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
