Key Features:

  • PIR Motion Detection with 180° field of view.
  • Occupancy (Auto ON, Auto OFF) and Vacancy (Manual ON, Auto OFF) modes.
  • No neutral wire required.
  • Operable without a ground wire connection (ground wire connection is recommended for safety).
  • Compatible with dimmable LED light bulbs (minimum 15W load).
  • Adjustable time delay (15 sec, 5 min, 10 min, 20 min, 30 min).
  • Adjustable motion detection sensitivity (Range).

3. Installation

3.1 Pre-Installation Steps

  1. Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that supplies power to the switch location and turn it OFF. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
  2. Remove Old Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall plate and switch from the wall box. Disconnect the wires from the old switch.

3.2 Wiring Instructions

The TDOS5-KM-I features a universal wiring design, allowing for interchangeable hot and load wires, simplifying installation. A neutral wire is not required. While operable without a ground wire, connecting the ground wire is highly recommended for safety.

Figure 3.1: Easy Wiring Diagram. Connect the hot and load wires to the switch terminals. A ground wire connection is recommended for safety but not required for operation.
  • Identify Wires: In your wall box, identify the hot (line) wire and the load wire.
  • Connect Wires: Connect the hot wire to one of the switch's terminals and the load wire to the other terminal. The switch's design allows these to be interchangeable.
  • Ground Wire (Recommended): If a ground wire is present in your wall box, connect it to the green ground screw on the switch.
  • Secure Wires: Ensure all wire connections are secure.

3.3 Compatibility and Important Notes

Graphic illustrating compatibility requirements for the motion sensor switch. It states 'ONLY compatible with DIMMABLE LED light bulbs' and 'INCOMPATIBLE with any lighting that includes ELECTRONIC BALLASTS'. It also notes a minimum 15W circuit requirement and a 1-2 minute warm-up time after installation.

  • This switch is ONLY compatible with dimmable LED light bulbs.
  • It is INCOMPATIBLE with any lighting that includes electronic ballasts.
  • The switch's circuit requires a minimum load of 15W.

3.4 Post-Installation

  1. Mount Switch: Carefully push the wired switch into the wall box and secure it with screws.
  2. Attach Wall Plate: Install the decorative wall plate.
  3. Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.
  4. Warm-Up Time: Allow 1-2 minutes for the device to warm up after installation before testing its functionality.

4. Operation

The TDOS5-KM-I offers two operational modes: Occupancy and Vacancy, along with adjustable settings for motion detection range and time delay.

4.1 Operating Modes

  • Occupancy Mode (Auto ON, Auto OFF): In this mode, the lights will automatically turn ON when motion is detected and turn OFF after a set time delay when no motion is detected.
  • Vacancy Mode (Manual ON, Auto OFF): In this mode, the lights must be manually turned ON by pressing the switch button. They will then automatically turn OFF after a set time delay when no motion is detected.

4.2 Changing Modes

To switch between Occupancy and Vacancy modes, locate the ON/OFF push button on the face of the device. Press and hold this button for 3 seconds. The mode will toggle between Occupancy and Vacancy.

4.3 Adjustable Settings

The switch features two adjustable dials located under the faceplate for customizing its performance:

Close-up view of the TOPGREENER motion sensor switch with the cover removed, revealing two adjustable dials labeled 'RANGE' and 'TIME'. The RANGE dial has settings 1-4, and the TIME dial has settings for Test (5s), 10min, 20min, 30min. An ON/OFF push button is also visible.
Figure 4.1: Customizable Settings. The 'RANGE' dial adjusts motion detection sensitivity, and the 'TIME' dial sets how long the light remains on after the last detected motion.
  • Range: This dial controls the motion detection sensitivity. Adjust it according to the daylight conditions and the size of the room to optimize detection. Settings typically range from 1 (lowest sensitivity) to 4 (highest sensitivity).
  • Time: This dial determines how long the light will remain ON after the last detected motion. Available options include: 15 seconds (Test mode), 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes.

5. Maintenance

The TOPGREENER TDOS5-KM-I Motion Sensor Switch requires minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the surface of the switch and sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the device.
  • Obstructions: Ensure the sensor lens is not obstructed by furniture, decorations, or other objects that could block its field of view, affecting motion detection.

6. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your TOPGREENER TDOS5-KM-I Motion Sensor Switch, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Lights do not turn ON automatically.
  • Incorrect wiring.
  • Switch is in Vacancy Mode.
  • Sensor range too low or obstructed.
  • No motion detected.
  • Incompatible bulb type.
  • Verify wiring connections (Hot/Load).
  • Switch to Occupancy Mode (press button for 3s).
  • Adjust 'Range' dial; clear obstructions.
  • Ensure motion occurs within sensor's field of view.
  • Confirm dimmable LED bulbs are used.
Lights do not turn OFF.
  • Constant motion detected.
  • Time delay set too long.
  • Minimum load not met.
  • Incompatible bulb type (e.g., electronic ballast).
  • Ensure no continuous motion in sensor's view.
  • Adjust 'Time' dial to a shorter duration.
  • Ensure connected load is at least 15W.
  • Confirm dimmable LED bulbs are used and no electronic ballasts are present.
Sensor is overly sensitive or not sensitive enough.
  • 'Range' dial setting is inappropriate for the environment.
  • Adjust the 'Range' dial to increase or decrease sensitivity as needed.
