1. Introduction

2. Setup

Battery Installation:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the microscope.
  2. Using a small Phillips head screwdriver, unscrew the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert 2 x AAA 1.5V alkaline batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the cover and secure it with the screw.

Preparing the Eyepiece:

  • Remove the protective cap from the eyepiece. Keep the cap for storage to prevent dust accumulation.
  • The soft-touch eyepiece is designed for comfort and safety during observation.

3. Operating the Microscope

Placing a Specimen:

  • Place a prepared slide or a blank slide with your own specimen onto the adjustable stage.
  • Use the slide clips to hold the slide securely in place.

Adjusting Magnification:

  • The microscope offers three magnification settings: 40x, 100x, and 400x.
  • Rotate the objective lens turret to select your desired magnification.

Using the LED Lights:

  • The microscope features LED lights both above and below the stage.
  • Use the light switch located on the back of the microscope to toggle between top light (for opaque specimens like rocks) and bottom light (for translucent specimens like slides).

Focusing:

  • Look through the eyepiece.
  • Slowly turn the large focusing knobs on either side of the microscope to move the stage up or down until your specimen comes into clear focus.

4. Exploring Specimens

Prepared Slides:

  • The kit includes 6 prepared plant slides for immediate exploration.
  • Carefully slide a prepared slide onto the stage and begin observing.

Rock and Mineral Specimens:

  • Examine the 6 genuine rock and mineral specimens provided.
  • Place a specimen directly on the stage and use the top LED light for illumination.

Creating Your Own Slides:

  • Use the 6 blank slides, pipette, specimen dish, and tweezers to collect and prepare your own samples.
  • Place a small sample on a blank slide, add a drop of water with the pipette, and cover with a slide cover.
  • Explore items from your backyard, household, or even water samples!

5. Maintenance

  • Always replace the eyepiece cap after use to protect the lens from dust and debris.
  • Wipe the microscope body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Store the microscope and all accessories in a clean, dry place when not in use.

6. Troubleshooting

Unclear View:

  • Ensure the specimen is properly centered on the stage.
  • Adjust the focusing knobs slowly until the image is sharp.
  • Check that the correct LED light (top or bottom) is selected for your specimen type.
  • Verify that the eyepiece and objective lenses are clean and free of smudges.

Lights Not Working:

  • Check if the batteries are correctly installed and not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • Ensure the light switch is in the correct position (top or bottom light).
