Setup and Preparation

  1. Inspect Pads: Before each use, inspect the foam pads for any tears, debris, or excessive wear. Replace damaged pads immediately.
  2. Clean Surface: Ensure the vehicle surface is clean, dry, and free of contaminants before applying any product.
  3. Attach to Polisher: Align the foam pad with the 150mm hook-and-loop backing plate of your dual-action polisher. Press firmly to ensure a secure attachment.
  4. Prime Pad (Optional): For first-time use or after cleaning, you may lightly mist the pad with a pad conditioner or a small amount of the product you intend to use to help with even spreading.

Operating Instructions

These black foam pads are designed for the final finishing steps, specifically for applying polishes, waxes, and sealants. Always follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the polish, wax, or sealant you are using.

  1. Apply Product: Dispense a small amount of polish, wax, or sealant directly onto the center of the black foam pad. Typically, 3-4 pea-sized drops are sufficient for a small section.
  2. Spread Product: Before turning on the polisher, lightly dab the pad onto the working surface area to distribute the product evenly.
  3. Begin Polishing/Waxing: Turn on your dual-action polisher to a low speed setting (e.g., 1-3 on a typical polisher). Work in small sections (e.g., 2x2 feet or 60x60 cm) using slow, overlapping passes.
  4. Maintain Pressure: Apply light, even pressure. The weight of the machine is often sufficient. Avoid excessive pressure, which can hinder the pad's effectiveness and potentially damage the surface.
  5. Increase Speed (Optional): For polishes, you may gradually increase the speed to a medium setting (e.g., 4-5) as you work the product. For waxes and sealants, lower speeds are generally preferred.
  6. Monitor Product: Continue working until the product becomes clear or hazes over, indicating it has been properly worked into the surface or is ready for removal.
  7. Wipe Off Residue: After completing a section, turn off the polisher and carefully remove any product residue with a clean, soft microfiber towel.
  8. Change Pads: For optimal performance, change to a fresh pad frequently, especially when applying waxes or sealants, or if the pad becomes saturated with product.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance extends the life of your polishing pads and ensures consistent results.

  • Immediate Cleaning: Clean pads immediately after use to prevent product from drying and hardening on the foam.
  • Hand Washing: Hand wash pads with warm water and a dedicated pad cleaner or mild detergent. Gently squeeze the pad to work out product residue.
  • Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly under running water until all soap and product residue are gone and the water runs clear.
  • Drying: Squeeze out excess water. Allow pads to air dry completely in a clean, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat. Do not machine dry.
  • Storage: Store clean, dry pads in a sealed bag or container to protect them from dust and contaminants.

Troubleshooting

  • Pad Not Sticking to Polisher:
    • Ensure both the pad's hook-and-loop surface and the polisher's backing plate are clean and free of debris.
    • The hook-and-loop material on the pad may be worn out. Replace the pad.
  • Uneven Product Application:
    • Ensure the pad is clean and not saturated with old product.
    • Apply product evenly across the pad before starting.
    • Maintain consistent pressure and overlapping passes during operation.
  • Pad Degradation/Tearing:
    • Excessive pressure or high speeds can cause premature wear.
    • Ensure the pad is centered on the backing plate to prevent uneven stress.
    • Avoid contact with sharp edges or abrasive surfaces.
