Operating the Camera
Basic Photography (Auto Picture Mode)
The camera features an "Auto Picture" mode that automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode from 16 different scene modes based on the subject type. This allows for effortless point-and-shoot photography in various conditions.
Specialized Shooting Modes
- Underwater and Underwater Movie Modes: These modes are specifically designed to optimize color and contrast for underwater photography, compensating for color loss and light diffusion. The "Flash Off + Flash On" option allows capturing two consecutive images (one with flash, one without) with a single shutter release.

Figure 4: Illustration showing the effect of flash on and off for underwater photography, allowing users to choose the best lighting for their shots.
- Digital Microscope Mode: When selected, the six LED Macro Lights around the lens provide bright, uniform illumination for close-up shooting. The intensity can be adjusted in five steps. The Instant Illumination Enhance function uses a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the Macro Light discharge level to minimize shake.

- Handheld Night Snap Mode: Automatically captures several images of the same nighttime scene and combines them into a single, blur-free composite image.
Video Recording
The WG-80 supports Full HD movie recording (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16:9 proportions) at 30 frames per second using the H.264 format. It also includes a high-speed camera function for slow-motion playback (recorded size fixed at 1280 x 720 pixels) and an interval movie function. A micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) allows simultaneous output of video and sound to external devices.
Anti-Shake Protection
The camera features triple anti-shake protection to minimize blurred images:
- Pixel Track SR mechanism: Digitally processes affected images to compensate for camera shake during still image recording.
- Digital SR mode: Automatically raises sensitivity up to ISO 6400 in low-lighting conditions to allow for higher shutter speeds, reducing camera and subject shake.
- Movie SR mode: Uses exclusive software to compensate for image misalignment caused by camera shake during movie recording, producing blur-free clips.
LCD Monitor and View Setting
The 2.7-inch LCD monitor has 16:9 proportions and approximately 230,000 dots. Its AR (Anti-Reflection) coating minimizes glare. The "Outdoor View Setting" mode allows easy adjustment of monitor brightness for optimal visibility in various lighting conditions.

Additional Features
- Face Detection: High-speed function to detect up to 32 faces in approximately 0.03 seconds.
- Smile Capture: Automatically releases the shutter when a smile is detected.

- Self-Portrait Assist: Uses the blink of an LED lamp (Macro Lights) to indicate if the subject's face is safely within the picture frame.

- Playback Mode: Delay-free, pushbutton start of the playback mode with an extended push of the playback button.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Ricoh WG-80 camera, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: After use, especially after exposure to water, sand, or dirt, rinse the camera with fresh water and wipe it dry with a soft, clean cloth. Do not use organic solvents or strong chemicals.
- Lens Care: Use a lens brush or a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for camera lenses to clean the lens. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
- Seals and Gaskets: Regularly inspect the rubber seals and gaskets around the battery compartment, memory card slot, and USB/HDMI ports for any signs of damage, dirt, or debris. Keep them clean and free of foreign particles to maintain waterproof integrity.
- Storage: Store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery.
- Battery Care: Charge the battery fully before use. Avoid completely draining the battery frequently. If not used for a long time, charge the battery at least once every six months.
