Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use and care of your SEIKO SSB405 Essentials Quartz Chronograph Watch. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your timepiece. This watch features a precise Japanese Quartz movement, chronograph functionality, and a tachymeter scale.

Setup
Setting the Time and Date
- Pull the crown out to the second click position. The small second hand will stop.
- Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. Ensure the AM/PM is correctly set by observing the 24-hour hand (if present) or by advancing the time past 12 o'clock to see if the date changes.
- Push the crown back to the first click position.
- Rotate the crown to set the date.
- Push the crown back to the normal position. The small second hand will resume movement.
Adjusting the Bracelet
The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted to fit your wrist. This typically involves removing or adding links. It is recommended to have this adjustment performed by a qualified jeweler or watch technician to prevent damage to the bracelet or clasp. Some models may include a tool for self-adjustment; if so, follow the specific instructions provided with your watch for link removal.

Operating Instructions
Using the Chronograph
The chronograph function allows for precise measurement of elapsed time.
- Start: Press the upper pusher (button A) to start the chronograph. The chronograph second hand will begin to move.
- Stop: Press the upper pusher (button A) again to stop the chronograph. The elapsed time will be indicated by the chronograph hands.
- Reset: Press the lower pusher (button B) to reset the chronograph. All chronograph hands will return to their zero positions.
For split time measurement, press button B during chronograph operation to temporarily stop the hands and read the split time. Press button B again to resume timing. Press button A to stop the chronograph, then button B to reset.
Using the Tachymeter
The tachymeter scale, located on the bezel or outer edge of the dial, can be used to measure speed or distance over a known period.
- To measure speed: Start the chronograph when you begin a measured mile (or kilometer). Stop the chronograph when you complete the mile. The number on the tachymeter scale corresponding to where the chronograph second hand points indicates the average speed in units per hour (e.g., miles per hour, kilometers per hour).
- To measure production rate: Start the chronograph when a process begins. Stop it after one unit of production is completed. The number on the tachymeter scale indicates the number of units produced per hour.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Regularly wipe your watch with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For stainless steel bracelets, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
Water Resistance
Your SEIKO SSB405 watch is water resistant to 50 meters (5 ATM). This means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not for diving or snorkeling. Avoid operating the crown or pushers when the watch is wet or submerged to prevent water intrusion.
Battery Replacement
This watch is powered by a battery. When the battery needs replacement, the second hand may start moving in two-second intervals. Battery replacement should be performed by a qualified watch technician to ensure proper sealing and maintain water resistance. Attempting to replace the battery yourself may void the warranty and damage the watch.
Troubleshooting
- Watch not running: Check if the crown is pushed in completely. If the watch still does not run, the battery may need replacement.
- Chronograph hands do not reset to zero: This can sometimes be corrected by performing a chronograph reset procedure. Consult a SEIKO service center if the issue persists after attempting a reset.
- Date changes at noon: The AM/PM setting is incorrect. Advance the time by 12 hours.
- Water inside the watch: Immediately take the watch to a qualified service center. Do not attempt to dry it yourself, as this can cause further damage.
