4. Operating Instructions

Once your sensors are set up and paired, you can manage your security system through the Lorex Home app.

4.1. Security Modes

The Lorex Home app allows you to customize your monitoring with different security modes:

  • Home Mode: Typically arms perimeter sensors (e.g., window/door sensors) while allowing free movement inside.
  • Away Mode: Fully arms all sensors, including motion sensors, for comprehensive protection when no one is home.
  • Disarmed Mode: All sensors are inactive, allowing unrestricted movement without triggering alerts.

You can configure which sensors are active in each mode via the app settings.

4.2. Notifications

The Lorex Home app provides instant push notifications to your smartphone when a sensor is triggered. You can customize notification settings for each sensor and mode within the app.

4.3. Integration with Lorex Devices

The Smart Sensor Starter Kit can be used as a standalone system or integrated with select Lorex DVRs, NVRs, and standalone WiFi cameras. This allows for advanced functionalities such as triggering camera recordings or pan/tilt movements upon sensor activation. Refer to your Lorex camera or recorder manual for specific integration steps.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Battery Replacement

The motion sensor and window/door sensors are battery-powered. When battery levels are low, you may receive notifications via the Lorex Home app. Replace batteries promptly to ensure continuous operation:

  • Motion Sensor: Requires 1 x CR2450 battery.
  • Window/Door Sensor: Requires 1 x CR1632 battery per sensor.

Always use fresh, high-quality batteries for optimal performance.

5.2. Cleaning

Wipe the sensors and hub periodically with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as these can damage the devices.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Lorex Smart Sensor Starter Kit, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Sensors Not Responding:
    • Check battery levels and replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the sensor is within range of the Sensor Hub.
    • Re-pair the sensor with the Sensor Hub via the Lorex Home app.
  • No Notifications:
    • Verify push notifications are enabled for the Lorex Home app in your phone's settings.
    • Check the security mode in the Lorex Home app to ensure the sensor is armed.
    • Ensure your Sensor Hub has a stable internet connection.
  • Sensor Hub Offline:
    • Check the power connection to the Sensor Hub.
    • Verify your home Wi-Fi network is active and the hub is connected.
    • Restart the Sensor Hub by unplugging and re-plugging it.
  • False Alarms:
    • For motion sensors, ensure it is not placed near heat vents, direct sunlight, or areas with pets that might trigger it.
    • For window/door sensors, ensure the two parts are securely mounted and do not shift, causing false triggers.
