3. Game Setup

Follow these steps to prepare for gameplay:

  1. Unfold the Game Board: Place the game board in the center of the playing area.
  2. Separate Cards: Separate the Title Deed cards, Adventures cards, and Parties cards into their respective piles. Shuffle the Adventures and Parties cards and place them face down on their designated spaces on the board.
  3. Banker Selection: One player is chosen as the Banker. The Banker is responsible for all money, Title Deeds, Stars, and 5-Star Certificates not yet owned by players. The Banker may also play, but must keep their personal money separate from the Bank's funds.
  4. Initial Money Distribution: The Banker distributes starting money to each player. Refer to the rulebook for specific amounts.
  5. Choose Tokens: Each player selects one of the 7 collectible tokens to represent them on the board.
  6. Place Tokens on GO: All players place their chosen tokens on the "GO" space.
  7. Place Stars and 5-Star Certificates: Place the Stars and 5-Star Certificates near the board, accessible to the Banker.

4. Gameplay Instructions

The objective of Monopoly: Hello Kitty and Friends is to be the last player remaining with money, by bankrupting all other players. Players take turns rolling the dice and moving their tokens around the board, buying and trading properties, and developing them with Stars and 5-Star Certificates.

4.1. Player Turn

  1. Roll the Dice: On your turn, roll both dice and move your token clockwise around the board the number of spaces indicated.
  2. Landing on a Space: The action you take depends on the space your token lands on:
    • Unowned Property: You may buy the property from the Bank for the price printed on the board. If you choose not to buy it, the Banker immediately offers it for auction to the highest bidder.
    • Owned Property: If another player owns the property, you must pay them rent as indicated on their Title Deed card.
    • Adventures or Parties: Draw the top card from the respective pile and follow its instructions.
    • GO: If you pass or land on "GO", collect $200 from the Bank.
    • Go to Jail: Move your token directly to the "Jail" space. Your turn ends.
    • Other Spaces: Follow the instructions on spaces like "Free Parking" or "Just Visiting".
  3. Doubles: If you roll doubles, take your turn as usual, then roll the dice again for another turn. If you roll doubles three times in a row, you immediately go to Jail.
  4. End of Turn: Once you have completed your actions, the turn passes to the player on your left.

4.2. Developing Properties

Once you own all properties in a color group, you can begin to build Stars (houses) and 5-Star Certificates (hotels) on them. Building increases the rent other players must pay when landing on your properties.

  • You must build evenly across a color group. For example, you cannot place a second Star on one property until all properties in that group have one Star.
  • A property can hold a maximum of four Stars. After four Stars, you can upgrade to a 5-Star Certificate.
  • Refer to the Title Deed cards for building costs and rent values.

4.3. Mortgaging and Trading

Properties can be mortgaged to the Bank for additional funds. Mortgaged properties do not collect rent. Players can also trade properties, money, and "Get Out of Jail Free" cards with each other at any time.

4.4. Winning the Game

The game ends when only one player remains solvent. All other players who have gone bankrupt (cannot pay their debts) are out of the game. The last player remaining is the winner.
