2. Operating Instructions
2.1 Basic Keyboard Functions
The Mini Cat 64 features a 60% layout, retaining essential keys while offering a compact form factor. All standard typing functions operate as expected.
2.2 RGB Backlighting
The keyboard is equipped with vibrant RGB backlighting. The stacked acrylic case enhances the lighting effects, allowing light to shine through the sockets and from the sides of the keyboard. Specific key combinations (refer to the included quick start guide) can be used to cycle through various lighting modes, colors, and brightness levels.
2.3 VIA Programmability
The Mini Cat 64 kit is fully programmable via VIA software. This allows you to remap keys, create macros, and customize lighting effects without reflashing the firmware. Changes are saved directly on the keyboard's onboard memory.
- Download VIA: Obtain the latest VIA software from the official VIA website.
- Connect Keyboard: Ensure your Mini Cat 64 is connected to your computer via the Type-C cable.
- Load Layout: Open VIA and load the appropriate keymap for the Mini Cat 64.
- Customize: Use the intuitive interface to remap keys, set up layers, and configure lighting to your preference.

3. Maintenance
3.1 Cleaning the Keyboard
To maintain optimal performance and appearance, regularly clean your keyboard:
- Dust Removal: Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from between keycaps.
- Surface Cleaning: Wipe the keycaps and case with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
3.2 Switch and Keycap Replacement
Thanks to the hot-swappable design, switches and keycaps can be easily replaced:
- Keycap Removal: Use a keycap puller to gently remove keycaps. Pull straight up to avoid damaging the switch stem.
- Switch Removal: Use a switch puller to carefully extract switches from the PCB. Squeeze the clips on the top and bottom of the switch and pull upwards.
- Installation: Follow the assembly steps (Section 1.2) to install new switches and keycaps.
4. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Mini Cat 64 keyboard, please refer to the following common solutions:
- Keyboard Not Responding:
- Ensure the Type-C cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and your computer.
- Try connecting the keyboard to a different USB port on your computer.
