5. Setup

5.1. Headgear Adjustment

Proper adjustment of the headgear is crucial for comfort and stability. The HSH-S800 features an adjustable headgear with breathable padding.

  • Size Adjustment: Rotate the knob at the back of the headgear to adjust the circumference for a snug fit.
  • Top Strap Adjustment: Adjust the top strap to position the helmet correctly on your head, ensuring the viewing area is at eye level.
  • Distance Adjustment: Use the side knobs to adjust the distance between your face and the ADF. This should allow for comfortable breathing and prevent fogging.
  • Tilt Adjustment: The headgear allows for tilt adjustment to find the optimal viewing angle.

5.2. Battery Installation/Replacement

The helmet is powered by solar cells and a replaceable CR2450 lithium battery. The battery provides power when there is insufficient light for the solar cells.

  • Locate the battery compartment on the ADF unit.
  • Open the compartment cover.
  • Insert a new CR2450 battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  • Close the battery compartment securely.

5.3. Lens Installation/Replacement

The helmet comes with three replacement outer lenses. These protect the main auto-darkening filter from scratches and spatter.

  • To replace the outer lens, carefully unclip the retaining frame on the front of the helmet.
  • Remove the old lens and insert a new one, ensuring it sits flush within the frame.
  • Secure the retaining frame back into place.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Powering On/Off

The helmet automatically powers on when exposed to light and powers off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life. Ensure the solar cells are exposed to light for optimal performance.

6.2. Shade Adjustment

The external knob on the side of the helmet allows for quick adjustment of the shade level from DIN 4 (Grind Mode) to DIN 9-13 (Weld Mode).

  • Grind Mode (DIN 4): Turn the knob to the 'Grind' setting. The lens will remain light, suitable for grinding operations. Ensure the helmet is in grind mode before grinding to avoid accidental darkening.
  • Weld Mode (DIN 9-13): Select the appropriate shade level based on your welding process and amperage. Refer to standard welding shade charts for guidance.

6.3. Sensitivity Adjustment

The sensitivity control adjusts how easily the ADF reacts to welding arc light. Higher sensitivity is suitable for low amperage TIG welding or when the arc is partially obscured. Lower sensitivity is for high amperage welding or when other welders are nearby.

  • Adjust the internal sensitivity dial to prevent false triggering or delayed darkening.

6.4. Delay Time Adjustment

The delay time control determines how long the lens remains dark after the welding arc stops. A short delay is suitable for tack welding, while a longer delay is recommended for high amperage welding to protect eyes from afterglow.

  • Adjust the internal delay dial to your preference.

6.5. True Color Technology and Optical Clarity

The 1/1/1/1 optical clarity rating and true color technology provide a clear and natural view of the weld puddle and surrounding area, enhancing precision and reducing eye strain.
